 Tues, Sept 13, 6:30 pm (native English speakers), 7:30 pm (native Spanish speakers): Reciprocal Language Partnership (RLP) information meetings about upcoming English/Spanish classes for beginning language learners.  RLP pairs native English speakers who want to learn Spanish with native Spanish speakers who want to learn English.  Classes Tuesdays from 6 pm to 8:15 pm, Sept 20 – Dec 13.  (616) 738-3850.  At Eagle's Wings Church/Iglesia Alas de Aguila, 962 Butternut Dr, Holland.

 Tues, Sept 13, 7:30 pm: Thirty-minute presentation "A Simple Question," by Ebony Road Players. Celebrates landmark court case overturning miscegenation laws "and how things have (or haven't) changed since then"; stories about interracial love and marriage. Co-sponsored by Hope College departments.  At DeWitt Studio Theater, Columbia Ave at 11^th St, Holland.

 Thurs, Sept 15, 4 pm-8 pm:  Hispanic Heritage Month Progressive Celebration: A traveling celebration highlighting various areas of Latino culture, hosted by partnership of Herrick District Library, City of Holland, LAUP, Hope College, MAX Transit, and Tulipanes.  Free MAX shuttle available between stops. Events are free except for mariachi concert (see next entry).

---4 pm: Children's event to decorate little piñatas and enjoy dulces (candies).  At Herrick District Library, 300 S. River, Holland.

---5 pm: Two exhibits:  art that features prints highlighting Mexican culture and the Promesa program from Ferris State University.  At Holland Museum, 31 West 10^th, Holland.

---6 pm: Art exhibit featuring a Mexican art movement of the post-World War II era.  At Kruizenga Art Museum, Columbia Ave, Holland.

---7 pm: Mariachi Flor De Toloache, Latin Grammy-nominated female mariachi music group.  (See next entry).

 Thurs, Sept 15, 7 pm: Opening event of the 16th annual Tulipanes Latino Art and Film Festival (Sept 15 – Sept 25 in Holland):  Concert by Mariachi Flor de Toloache, female mariachi band and Latin Grammy Nominee.  Members from diverse cultural backgrounds creates a mixture of traditional and modern music.  $15 adults; $5 students, Hope College ticket office 100 E. 8^th St or (616) 395-7890. www.tulipanes.org  At Jack H.  Fri, Sept 16, 7 pm support group, 8:10 pm, program:  PFLAG Holland/Lakeshore: "Diversity in Police Work."  Holland police officer Joel Serna talks about the Public Safety Department's recent training of its personnel on recognizing and reducing personal biases, especially in regard to ethnic minority persons and people who are LGBT.  Sun, Sept 18, 2 pm: Tulipanes film: "Endgame."   Family film, in partnership with ACEH.  Story of a student in Texas who learned to play chess from his grandmother and tries to help his team make it to Texas state finals.  Sun, Sept 18, 6:30 pm – 8 pm: "Building a Peaceful and Compassionate Community": The 10^th anniversary of the Holland Peace Pole.   Presentations by community groups, including ACEH.  Music by Carol Johnson .Cookies and conversation follow.  Bring own lawn chair.  Sponsored by Lakeshore Women for Peace.  At Smallenburg Park, 379 Fairbanks, north of 16^th St, Holland.

 Mon, Sept 19, 8:30 am-4 pm: 3^rd annual statewide Welcoming Michigan convening.
