Mon., Apr 10: Deadline to reserve for 1^st Business Connections Recognition Awards Luncheon Wed., Apr 12 from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Sponsored by Business Connections Committee, Holland Area Chamber of Commerce, supporting programs that address concerns of minority business owners. Awards to "Minority Business of the Year" and "Outstanding Advocate for Minority-Owned Businesses." Tues, Apr 4, 4 pm:  In celebration of Asian Heritage Month (May), Sonali Allen, community development officer at Mercantile Bank, will speak on “Personal Reflections.”  Sponsored by Hope College Office of Multicultural Life and HAPA, Hope’s Asian Perspective Association.  Refreshments will be served.  At Maas Auditorium, Columbia Ave and 11^th St., Holland.

 

POSTPONED:  The Asian Food Festival, originally scheduled for Tues., Apr 4, has been rescheduled for  Wed., Apr 12, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.  Charge for community members.  At Phelps Dining Hall, corner of Columbia and 10th St., Holland.

 

Fri., Apr 7 and Sat.,  Apr 8, 7:30 pm: Contemporary Motions Dance Company concerts, “I Dream in Color,” with multiple guest artists and the Grosso Modo dance company of Holland’s sister city,  Querétaro, Mexico. Live music, folkloric and modern dances, “myriad moods, themes and amazing costumes and lighting.” Includes a trio from Veracruz, Mexico; a singer from Puerto Rico, and premiers of new solo works.  $7 admission, or $5 for seniors, students, and children; tickets available at the door.  At Knickerbocker Theatre, 86 East 8^th St., downtown Holland.

Thurs., Mar 30, 7:30 pm: Cleve Jones, founder of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, talks about the quilt‘s origin “in the context of America’s history with the AIDS pandemic and as part of the global fight against HIV/AIDS.”  Free.  Hope Student Congress Speaker Series. Sat., Apr 1, 2 pm: First in a series of international films, "Vatel" (France, 2000); after the film Prof. Isabelle Chapuis-Alvarez of Hope College will speak about French food and culture.  Arranged by Chiaroscuro, a group of professors from several West Michigan colleges and universities whose aim is to promote cultural diversity and awareness through international films and round-table discussions for students and community members.  At Herrick District Library, River Ave between 12th and 13th Sts., Holland.
