Future Search 2020 is a 2.5-day (May 27-29) planning process involving 84 representatives from all sectors of the greater Holland/Zeeland area. The goal of Voices in Action: Thriving Together is to create a shared, long-term community vision and to identify priorities for community collaboration. First, it needs YOUR opinion. A number of school districts in West Michigan are opening up grab-and-go meal sites

MAX Transit suspends regular route service, continues Reserve-A-Max

Macatawa Area Express (MAX) has suspended all regular route service until further notice.

Public transportation will still be available through MAX Transit's Reserve-A-MAX service. Reserve- A-MAX rides must be scheduled by 4 p. m. the day before service is needed. Rides can be scheduled by calling 616-355-1010. Reserve-A-MAX buses will only be available for transportation to and from work, medical appointments, and grocery stores.

During this time, fares will be $1 for all passengers for the Reserve-A-MAX service, a reduction from the usual fares. MAX Transit's offices are currently closed to the public, but passengers can reach staff to schedule trips and purchase passes at 616-355-1010 between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Passes can also be purchased online at catchamax.org.

Free WiFi Service in Holland: 6 am to 11 pm

The City of Holland has launched MiHollandFreeWiFi at the north parking lot of the Holland Civic Center. Bring your device & drive on over to use the BPW fiber internet for FREE from the comfort of your car! Download movies for the kids, check email, video chat with the grandparents. Please pass this info on to families that need internet access. (The Civic Center building is closed to visitors.)

Hosted by Gender SAFE (Supporting All For Equality), program will feature new stories about transgender and non-binary youth, a craft and song, a collection of books, and a reading list to take home. Wed, March 11, 6 pm: Documentary film: "True Justice: Bryan Stevenson's Fight for Equality." Attorney Stevenson is founder/executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative. This HBO documentary focuses on his personal story and those of his clients and "a history of injustice and complicity by the U.S. justice system, revealing how a narrative of racial inequality emerged in this country." (A dramatization of his work, "Just Mercy," was shown in Jan-Feb at the AMC Star 8 Theater in Holland.) Co-hosted by HOSA (Holland Openly Secular Alliance), and ACEH. Wed, March 25, 5 pm: Annual César Chávez Lecture: Migrant Workers' Tale, Chávez and Huerta's Legacy of Courage and Persistence, by Lorna Hernandez Jarvis, associate vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion, Whitworth University, Spokane WA. She will focus on the history and plight of migrant workers, their struggle for equality, and their search for justice through the leadership of Chávez and Dolores Huerta, including "what has America learned as the nation continues to struggle with welcoming immigrants and providing justice for farmworkers and the poor." Dr. Jarvis was a member of Hope College psychology faculty, 1993-2017. Co-sponsored by Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Latino Student Organization, GROW. Come for great live music and a program about the Michigan town of Idlewild where outstanding black entertainers performed when they were shut out of other venues in the state and nation. Come for fellowship, wonderful food, family activities. Come for the silent auction of goods and services, our chief fundraiser to support scholarships and ACEH work in the community.
