Fri, July 13, 7 pm: Lakeshore Women for Peace gathering at the Peace Pole, including meditations, prayers.  Holland Mayor Al McGeehan will give a historical perspective on peace and patriotism.  At Smallenberg Park, Fairbanks Ave. north of 16th St., Holland.

 

Sat, July 14, 8 pm: Salsa Night, sponsored by Tulipanes Latino Art and Film Festival, with music by Orquesta Sensacional.  Lessons on the basics of salsa and Latin dance start at 8 pm, followed by live music and dancing from 9 pm to midnight.  $10 before the event (on sale at Holland Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, 76 East Eighth St, Holland); $15 at the door (cash or checks only).  At Holland Armory, 9th St between River and Central Ave, Holland.

Today, Tues, June 19, 6 pm: Vincent Chin Commemorative, sponsored by Asian Victims Relief Fund and the Asian Pacific Americans for Progress.  Film, Academy-Award nominated documentary "Who Killed Vincent Chin?" followed by panel discussion.  Food available for purchase.  Event is free; donations welcome.  At St. Mary Magdalen Family Center, 1213 52^nd St SE, Kentwood.

Today, Thurs, June 14, 5 pm:  Come on down…town! and join the Walk and Roll fundraiser to benefit the Disability Network/Lakeshore.  (Contributions from ACEH members and friends are divided between the Disability Network and Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony and are tax-deductible.)   Half-hour walk through downtown, followed by appetizers/beverages on the back deck of the restaurant.  At Via Maria restaurant, 13 West 7th Street, Holland.

 

Fri, June 15, 6:30 pm:  Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and listen (or dance) to cool Latin music from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Cuba, as the six-piece band Orquestra Sensational opens Holland's Summer Concert Series. The group will sing in Spanish and English.  Free.  At Centennial Park, 10^th St at River Ave, Holland.
