Asian Heritage Week at Hope College
Sun, March 8, 7:30 pm: Asian Heritage Celebration showcases Asian culture represented at Hope College; includes Asian food (small portion of Vietnamese Pho and summer roll per person), Bollywood dancing lessons, and how to do Japanese calligraphy and origami. Free, open to the public. Organized by Hope College Office of Multicultural Education (OME) and the student HAPA (Hope Asian Perspectives Association) organization. At Maas Auditorium, Columbia Ave at 11th St, Holland.
Tues, March 10, 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm: Asian Food Fest. Menu includes curry, pad Thai, fried rice, egg rolls, fried dumplings, samosa, and sticky rice mango. $6 for community members. At Phelps and Cook Dining Halls, 10th St between College and Columbia Aves, Holland.
Tues, March 10, 6 pm: Asian Heritage Lecture by Pastor Socheth Na and his son, Stephen Na, from the Cambodian Fellowship CRC; they will speak about their experiences living in Holland as first- and second-generation immigrants from Cambodia. Free, open to the public. Sponsored by Hope College Office of Multicultural Education and the HAPA student organization. Wed, March 11, 3 pm: Refugee Symposium: Preparing for Syrian Resettlement. Panel and discussion about Syrian conflict, culture, resettlement challenges, health, education, employment, medical concerns, housing and other concerns; connect to resources and network with area professionals. Summit on Race and Inclusion
Registration is open for the March 27, 2015, Summit on Race and Inclusion "Moving Beyond Bias." The event is 8:30 am to 3 pm at Grand Haven High School, Grand Haven. Registration fee of $50 includes keynote speeches, a breakout session and panel discussion, refreshments and lunch. Haworth Scholarships
The Haworth Corporation in Holland is offering two diversity scholarships to minority college sophomores or juniors along with an opportunity for a paid, 12-week summer internship and two skilled trades scholarships for persons with a high school diploma or equivalent who are enrolled in a two-year skilled trades/vocational school program.
