Tues, May 15, 6:30 pm to 8 pm:  "Race, Religion & Racism in the House of God: A Bold Encounter with Division in the Church." Pastor Wayne Coleman shares a series of teachings that will "address the problem and solution of racism and racial prejudice in the church." Wed, May 16: The Farmer's Market opens this morning; help support local farms.  At Pine Ave and 8th St., in front of the Civic Center, Holland.

 

Thurs, May 17, 6:30 pm to 8 pm: "Children and Juvenile Law," informational community forum for Hispanics, sponsored by Latin Americans United for Progress for information, education, and discussion in Spanish about juvenile justice issues.  Free. Sun, May 20, 5:30 pm:  Community potluck, open to everyone.  Please bring a dish to pass.  Meet new people, share ideas, have a good time.  At Leaf and Bean Too, 19th and Columbia, Holland.

 

Tues, May 22, 5:30 pm to 7 pm:  Super Tuesday End of the Year Celebration.

Fun for everyone: children's games, face painting, fire truck, hot dogs and chips.  Free.  Sponsored by Lokers Shoes.  A collaboration of Community Action House, City of Holland, and Center for Women in Transition.  At Kollen Park, Van Raalte Ave by Lake Macatawa, Holland.

Thurs, June 14: Annual Walk and Roll fundraising event of the Disability Network/Lakeshore; the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony is a partnering organization.  Get a pledge sheet at Leaf and Bean (19th and Columbia Ave, Holland) or by emailing aceh@harmonyalliance.org  Half of funds raised by ACEH members and friends supports disability programs and half goes to ACEH.  Bring donations to Via Maria Restaurant, 13 West 7th St., Holland, between 5 pm and 7 pm on June 14.  A half-hour walk through downtown Holland starts at 5 pm, followed by pizza, appetizers, and beverages at Via Maria.  

 

If you can't attend the celebration, bring donations to the Disability Network/Lakeshore office, 426 Century Lane, Holland, before June 14; office hours 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, or call Sue Ann, (616) 396-5326.

Fri, May 4, 7 pm: Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony invites people to join us for an evening of Latino band music, food, and fun at Fiesta, sponsored by Latin Americans United for Progress.  Meet at Civic Center steps, west of Pine Ave between 8th and 9th Sts, Holland.

 

Sat, May 5, 9 am to 3 pm: Arts for All program sponsored by Holland Area Arts Council.  This unique program, created by Dwayne Szot, features adaptive art tools (art machines) that allow individuals with disabilities to create their own works of art, while people of all ages and skills work together on a community project "promoting better understanding."  Participants will create a large-scale collaborative mural for display at the Arts Council, as well as their own print to take home as a memento. Sat, May 5, 9 am to 5 pm: Fiesta (formerly Cinco de Mayo) sponsored by LAUP.  King and queen contest, 9 am to noon; music, performances, food and information booths, low-rider cars, and more.  At Holland Civic Center, Pine Ave between 8th and 9th Sts, Holland.
