Tulipanes film sponsored by the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony/Gary Pepe Memorial Fund.  Documentary depicting lives of contemporary Mexican American migrants and their struggles to educate their children while obtaining employment.  Centered around the daughter, Liliana, as she enters high school; follows the family as it moves back and forth between their home in Texas and the California agricultural fields, and the impact on the young woman.  Part of Tulipanes Latino Art and Film Festival.  At Knickerbocker Theatre, 8^th Street, Holland.

---Applications are being accepted until Friday, Aug 14, for the fall Citizens Police Academy of the Holland Police Department.  (A waiting list of applicants is currently being established.)  Applicants must be at least 17 years old; live in Holland, a neighboring township, or Ottawa County; or work in Holland.  A brief background check will be made.  The Academy is offered once a year and participants meet on Mondays from 6 to 9 pm, for 10 weeks starting September 14.  Topics include the various divisions of the department, including drug enforcement, gang activity, domestic violence, K-9, drunk driving, probation and the court system, plus a tour of Ottawa County central dispatch and the county jail.  Applications are available at the Holland Police Department, 89 West 8^th Street, or by calling Lori Boeve, 355-1140.  For additional information, check the website www.hollandpd.com
