 Fri, Sept 6: Deadline to register for West Michigan Summit on Immigration and Refugee Rights.  (See Friday, Sept 13, listing below.)

 Fri, Sept 6, 5 pm to 7 pm:  Reception to celebrate two exhibits at Kruizenga Art Museum (see below, under Exhibits).  Free, open to the public.  At Kruizenga Art Museum, 271 Columbia Ave, Holland.

 Sat, Sept 7, 4 pm to 10 pm:  Muskegon County Latino Festival.  Celebrate people, culture, Latino heritage.  Entertainment, great food, more.  At Hackley Park, 350 West Webster Ave, Muskegon.

 Fri, Sept 10, 7 pm:  interfaith panel discussion: "Justice and Equity in a Global World."  Panelists Zahabia Ahmed-Usmani, Lindsay Hartman, Julian Newman, Patricia Lynn Reilly will focus on how various faith and secular groups pursue equity and justice for all within their lives.  Presented by Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance in collaboration with GVSU; moderator is Kyle Kooyers, program manager at Kaufman Interfaith Institute.  Free; get tickets on EventBrite.  At Herrick District Library, 300 S.  Fri, Sept 13, 9 am: 2019 West Michigan Summit on Immigration and Refugee Rights: "De-Marginalizing Immigrants."  Geared toward service providers who work with immigrant populations: lawyers, healthcare professionals, teachers, social workers, government and nonprofit employees, other social services providers.  Attendees will learn what they can do to help immigrants navigate complex systems and adjust to living in U.S., ways to advocate for immigrants in their workplaces.  Breakout sessions; a plenary keynote panel.  Hosted by Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates.  Mon, Sept 16, 6:30 pm:  Town Hall Meeting on Mental Illness: Mass Shootings.  Panelists, discussion.  Hosted by Extended Grace, with co-sponsors North Ottawa Community Mental Health, Ottawa County, Grand Haven Area Public Schools.  At Grand Haven Community Center, 421 Columbus Ave, Grand Haven.

 Exhibits

"Patriot Nations: Native Americans in Our Nation's Armed Forces."  A 16-panel exhibition of art, photography, and essay that documents 250 years of Native peoples' contributions in U.S. military history.  Produced by the Smikthsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, supported by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and hosted by Holland's Human Relations Commission.  On view at Holland City Hall, 270 S.  "Changing America": The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 and the March on Washington in 1963, and how they shaped Grand Rapids.  Traveling exhibit of Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African American History and National Museum of American History.  Project of Grand Rapids Public Museum, with Grand Rapids African American Museum & Archives.  Open through Oct 13.  https://www.grpm.org/  (616) 929-1700.  "Capturing Light: The Art of Shin Sawano, A Tradition for the Future of Japan." Japanese artist Shin Sawano combines cutting-edge photographic and printing  technologies with traditional Japanese papers and picture-mounting techniques. Twelve images depicting landscapes in Japan and South Africa are highlighted in this focus
