 Mon, July 31, 7 pm:  Candidate forum for Holland's Ward 3.  The League of Women Voters of the Holland Area will host a forum for the three candidates—Brian Burch, Raul Garcia, and Tim Marroquin—vying for Ward 3's seat on the Holland City Council.  This is the only contested race in the August 8 primary election.  At Holland City Hall, 270 South River, Holland.

 Tues, Aug 1, 4 pm: National Night Out.  Community event "to show support for local police-community partnerships and safe neighborhoods."  Food, music, games, car show, contests, movie at dusk, more.  At Kollen Park, Lake Macatawa, Holland.

ACEH will hold its 19th annual Potluck in the Park on Sunday, August 13, from 1 to 4 pm at the Kollen Park Band Shell, by Lake Macatawa in Holland.

 Come enjoy fun, fellowship, music, family activities, games, piƱata, and great food.  Invite someone new in the community!

Citizenship classes:  Escape Ministries is hosting 10 weeks of citizenship classes; participants will prepare for the civics/history exam, practice English, and get help with their applications to become naturalized U.S. citizens.  Classes are Tuesday mornings (10:30 am to noon) beginning Aug. 1; the application legal clinic will be Saturday, Sept 30.  Call (616) 396-4481 to enroll.

 TONIGHT, Fri, July 21, 7 pm: PFLAG meeting at which Sara "will inform us and answer questions bout persons who are intersex, beyond the binaries of sex and gender and different from persons who are cisgender or transgender."  A trans group meets from 6 to 7 pm.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

 Sun, July 23, 2 pm: "A Brush with Peace": Free event for women and girls to paint a 12 x 12-inch canvas; no painting experience necessary. Hosted by artist Carolyn Stich, Rev. Linda Knieriemen of First Presbyterian Church, Holland, and the Holland Area Arts Council "to use art to bring together people from different cultures in order to break down misunderstandings and build friendships."  At Haworth Inn and Conference Center, 225 College Ave, Holland.

 Mon, July 24, 5 pm:  Deadline for nominations for the 2017 Ability Award, the 7th year this award has been presented by the Disability Network/Lakeshore to "honor those who promote a spirit of inclusion and a community without barriers.  Allegan and Ottawa Co. residents engaged in leadership, advocacy, and empowerment of people with disabilities are eligible for the award; nominees may be someone who lives with a disability, has a family member with a disability, or is a friend or ally to the disability community."
