Sunday, Dec. 18, 5:30 p.m.: Dessert potluck to celebrate the season.  Share a treat, conversation, and friendship with others in the community.  Everyone is welcome.  At Leaf and Bean Too, Columbia Ave. and 19th St., Holland.

Now through January 29, 2006: “Picture Stories: A Celebration of African American Illustrators,” an exhibit of 60 works by 12 contemporary American artists of African heritage who illustrate children’s picture books.  Subjects include history, traditional holidays, spirituals, folk tales, legends, family life, and heroes such as Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Langston Hughes, and Louis Armstrong.  At Muskegon Museum of Art, 296 West Webster Ave., Muskegon; open daily 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Sundays open at noon; Thursdays open until 8 p.m.); phone (231) 720-2570; www.muskegonartmuseum.org.

 Looking ahead:

Friday, Jan. 13, 7 p.m.:  Annual meeting of Alliance for Cultural and  Ethnic Harmony.  Election of board members, brainstorming for future programs.  Open to the public.  At Center for Women in Transition, 411 Butternut, Holland.  NOTE:  ACEH will be electing four new members to its nine-member board.  Terms are two years. The board meets once a month to plan programs, organize for community outreach, oversee finances, set up social events, etc.; sharing the work is what's kept ACEH going as a volunteer organization since 1999 (plus, the board members have fun while they work).  Would you like to help?  Contact Mike Jones at 738-6070, adjones25@charter.net or Jill Cooper at 786-0829, JillCooper@chartermi.net or email aceh@harmonyalliance.org.
