Today, Wed., Mar 29, 4 pm: “Embracing Japan: Unexpected Lessons of a Fulbright Year,” by  Dr. William Cohen, Hope professor emeritus of history.  At Maas Conference Room, Columbia and 11th St., Holland.

 

Thurs., Mar 30, 4 pm: In celebration of César Chávez’s birthday (March 31), Joaquin and Julian Castro from San Antonio, TX, will speak on their experiences, and their admiration for Chávez.  Sponsored by Hope College student organization, La Raza Unida, and the Office of Multicultural Life.  Dessert reception follows.  At Maas Auditorium, Columbia and 11th St., Holland.

 

Thurs., Mar 30, 7:30 pm: Cleve Jones, founder of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, talks about the quilt‘s origin “in the context of America’s history with the AIDS pandemic and as part of the global fight against HIV/AIDS.”  Free.  Hope Student Congress Speaker Series. At Knickerbocker Theatre, 86 East 8th St., Holland.

 

Sat., Apr 1, 2 pm: First in a series of international films, "Vatel" (France, 2000); after the film Prof. Isabelle Chapuis-Alvarez of Hope College will speak about French food and culture.  Arranged by Chiaroscuro, a group of professors from several West Michigan colleges and universities whose aim is to promote cultural diversity and awareness through international films and round-table discussions for students and community members.  At Herrick District Library, River Ave between 12th and 13th Sts., Holland.
