Mon., Apr 17, 7 pm: Author and naturalist Stephen Ross talks about natural areas of western and central Cuba, including La Guira National Park, Zapata Swamp, Bay of Pigs, and also the city of Havana. Program of Holland Audubon Club.  $3.  At De Graaf Nature Center, 600 Graafschap Rd., Holland.

 

Tues., Apr 18, 7 pm: Author Anna-Lisa Cox speaks about her book on Covert, a Southwest Michigan town that was racially integrated in the 1860s.  At Martha Miller Center, Fried-Hemenway Auditorium, Columbia Ave at 10th St., Holland.

 

Thurs., Apr 20, 4:30 to 7 pm: Asian Heritage Month Film Festival: “Water.”  Sponsored by Hope’s Asian Perspective Assn (HAPA), Japan Club, and Office of Multicultural Life.  At Depree Cook Auditorium, Arts Center, Columbia and 12th St., Holland.

 

Thurs., Apr 20, 7:30 pm: Bid for Bowls fundraiser for Ladder Homes, supportive housing for persons with mental illness in Holland/Zeeland area. Bowls donated by Holland Bowl Mill have been decoratively painted by area artists.  Entertainment by Holland Windmill Chorus. www.ladderhomes.org  At Till Midnight/Baker Lofts, 171 East 24th St., Holland.

 

Thurs., Apr 20, 7:30 pm: Rosa Parks tribute concert, by the Hpoe College Wind Symphony, including two works written to honor Mrs. Parks.  History professor Dr. Fred Johnson III will read poems and excerpts from sermons in-between the musical pieces; the college faculty Jazz Trio will play and feature guest performers and soloists.  Free. At Dimnent Chapel, College Ave. at 12th St., Holland.

Sat., Apr 22, 8 am to 3 pm: Garage sale fundraiser for Sol Azteca Ballet Folklorico. If you have items to donate, you can bring them starting Friday, Apr 21, from 6 to 7:30 pm.  At Crossroad Chapel, Lincoln Ave at 12th St., Holland.

 

Sat., Apr 22, 10 am to 2 pm: Walk & Roll fundraiser, Lakeshore Luau, to benefit Lakeshore Center for Independent Living (LCIL); half of pledges raised by ACEH are returned to the Alliance.  At Zeeland West High School, 3390 100th Ave., Zeeland.  Call 396-5326.

Sat., Apr 22, 1 pm: “Heal with Teal” 5K Run/Walk in commemoration of sexual assault awareness month; begins/ends in Centennial Park; informational booth; Clothesline Project display of shirts made by sexual assault survivors and families.
