Are you registered to vote?  Monday, July 9, is the last day to register to be eligible to vote in the August 7 primary election.

 

You can register  with the Michigan Secretary of State, including at any branch offices, the offices of your local city or township clerk, and other state agencies.

 

Your vote is your voice!   ¡Tu voto es tu voz!

Sat, June 30, 11 am:  Families Belong Together Rally.  To call for reunification of families that have been separated at the border between the U.S. and Mexico, to be educated on current immigration situations, and to learn some "next steps."  Sponsored by Lighthouse Immigrants Advocates, Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP), and many area churches and organizations, including ACEH.  At Centennial Park (River and Central Aves, 10th and 12th Sts), downtown Holland.

 

----A reminder from organizers:  Saturday's temperatures are expected in the 90s.  Bring water and stay hydrated; wear sunscreen, light clothing, a hat.  Bring friends!

 Tues, June 26, 7 pm:  Great Lakes Anishinaabek Storytelling.  At Grand Rapids Main Library, 111 Library St NE, Grand Rapids.

 

Wed, June 27, 6:30 pm:  IN/JUSTICE: A Community Discussion on Criminal Justice in West Michigan.  Community groups and public officials will "discuss the causes and solutions to problems with criminal justice in Grand Rapids."  Includes Police Chief David Rahinsky, Kent Co. Prosecutor Chris Becker, representatives of the ACLU and community groups.  At Wealthy Theatre, 1130 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids.

 

Fri, June 29, 6 pm, dinner; 7 pm, film:  Dinner & Dialogue: an Inspire! event. First in  series of events "to continue conversation on topics of social justice and human rights." Community Opportunities

Special Needs Adult Storytime:  Adults with special needs can explore great books, sing songs, and build community with one another at the library, on the third Thursday of every month at 10 am July 19, August 16.  At Herrick District Library, 300 South River Ave, Holland.

 

Meet Up and Eat Up, Summer 2018:  Sponsored by Holland Public Schools. -----  The IRC has issued a Call for Performers to participate in its first International Festival on Saturday, August 17, 2019.   The goal is to feature dancers, musicians, storytellers, and visual artists representing the peoples and cultures of Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australia, as well as Central, South, and North America.  Applications available online now at https://www.cityofholland.com/irc/international-festival-performer-application  Deadline to apply is Aug 17 of this year (2018).  Some 1,000 persons are expected to attend; venues will be Kollen Park and various 8th Street locations in downtown Holland.
