 TONIGHT, Fri, Nov 16, 7 pm support group; 8 pm program: Holland/Lakeshore PFLAG.  Sara Johnson, resource manager, Community Access Line of the Lakeshore (CALL 211) will speak about what the agency offers. Gender SAFE meets at 6 pm.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

 Tues, Nov 20, 7 pm:  Transgender Day of Remembrance.  Candlelight vigil to honor lives of "those lost to anti-transgender violence" in 2018.  ACEH is among the co-hosts. At Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St, Holland.

 Sat, Nov 24, 7 pm:  HOSA (Holland's Openly Secular Alliance) meeting.  Local speaker on "Living, Working and Thriving in a Christian-Dominant Community."  RSVP to HollandOpenlySecularAllliance@gmail.com  At Out On The Lakeshore office, 451 Columbia (near 19th St), Holland.

 Mon, Dec 3, 6:30 pm:  Film, "The Occupation of the American Mind."  Produced in 2016,  film looks at Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory and invasions of Gaza and at pro-Israel public relations efforts within the U.S.  Part of Holland International Relations Commission's film series: How Did We Get Here? How Man-Made Structures, the Media, and the Military Have Shaped Our World.  At Herrick District Library, 300 S. River, Holland.

 Fri, Dec 7, 11:30 am to 1 pm: "Making a Difference: Holiday Taste of the Tri-Cities."  Event of Center for Women in Transition to benefit families in North Ottawa County area that have been affected by domestic and sexual violence.  Food from local restaurants.  Tickets $40, at www.cwitmi.org/events  At Covenant Life Church, 101 Columbus Ave, Grand Haven.

Fri, Nov 16-Wed, Nov 21, 11 am to 4 pm:   Student Exhibition of Learning.  Hundreds of artistic student responses to the themes presented in the Big Read Lakeshore's community book for 2018, "Station Eleven."  Free.  www.hope.edu/bigread.  At Holland Armory, 9th St between River and Central Aves, Holland.

 Thurs, Dec 13, through Mar 10, 2019: "SONS: Seeing the Modern African American Male.  More than 80 photographs of Muskegon men, selected by a committee of their peers and representing "a broad array of backgrounds, professions, and socioeconomic status." Photography and video are used "to mimic the process of prejudging people…and reconciling  prejudgments with realities."  At Muskegon Museum of Art, 296 West Webster Ave, Muskegon.

 Community Opportunities

Poster contest announced for first annual International Festival of Holland (August 17, 2019).  City of Holland and Holland Area Arts Council seek submissions from artists for an image to be used on a poster and other marketing (no text). Many of you are financial supporters of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony, and you are deeply appreciated.  We're asking if others of you who read, use, forward, or otherwise benefit from this weekly email will also become members of ACEH.  Your dues are needed to help pay for "In the Community," our monthly Newsletter, educational programs, partnerships with other groups, outreach and advocacy, and community social events twice a year.

 It's easy to join!  Here's how:

 --Or you can write a check to ACEH, c/o Treasurer Al Minert, Box 3007, Holland, MI 49422-3007;

--Or you can join at any ACEH program or social event.

 Dues are $20 per year for an individual ($35, two years); $30 per year for a couple or family ($50, two years); $40 for a nonprofit; and $75 for a business.  In lieu of (or in addition to) paying dues, you may join as a service member, volunteering for the group.  ACEH is a 501c3 organization.  Our fiscal year is October 1 to September 30.
