 TONIGHT, Fri, Mar 1, 7 pm: "Healing Justice: Self-Expression through Group Singing—Moving Toward Meaningful Connections and Big Picture Change."  Dr. Mary Cohen, associate professor of music education, University of Iowa, and founder of Oakdale Prison Community Choir: how choral singing can transform lives through healing, hope, community. Half her choir is community members and half are persons incarcerated in a medium-security prison. Sponsored by area churches, Hope College departments, local chapter of American Guild of Organists.  At Hope Church RCA, 77 West 11th St, Holland.

 Sat, Mar 2, 11 am:  Angela Dominguez, children's author and illustrator, will read from some of her bilingual picture books and talk about her adventures in producing children's literature.  Books will be available for sale.  https://www.angeladominguezbooks.com/  At Herrick District Library, 300 S.  Tues, Mar 5, 6:30 pm: "Quality of Life: The Affordable Community."  Program of Living Sustainably Along the Lakeshore to address "how housing issues affect us and our neighbors."  Panelists Ryan Kilpatrick of Housing Next; Laura Driscoll, Good Samaritan's director of housing services; Angela Maxwell of Community Action House; and Chad Frederick, GVSU geography department faculty.  At Herrick District Library, 300 S. River, Holland.

 Thurs, Mar 7, 4 pm:  2019 Asian Heritage Education and Diversity Lecture: "Reframing the Narrative: Resistance, Resettlement, Redress," by Frank Abe, journalist, producer, and director.  Talk focuses on wartime internment of Japanese Americans, relating the experience to that of those targeted in U.S. today on basis of race, religion, or immigrant status.  In collaboration with Hope College departments, organizations.  At Bultman Student Center Schaap auditorium, 141 E. 12th St, Holland.

 Thurs, Mar 7, 7 pm: Jack Ridl Visiting Writers Series: Award-winning authors Hilary Plum ("Strawberry Fields") and Chen Chen ("When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities") present from these and other works.  At Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts Recital Hall, 221 Columbia Ave, Holland.

 Sat, Mar 16, 5 pm:  20th anniversary celebration of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH).  All are welcome at this cultural sharing party and potluck featuring entertainment, family activities, an auction of new goods and services, fun, fellowship, and—of course—delicious foods.  Please bring a dish to share from your family background, and a nonperishable item for a local food bank.  At First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 57 West 10th St (use 9th St entrance), Holland.

 Community Opportunity

Make your family multi-cultural: Host a high school student from abroad for a semester or school-year. CETUSA (Council for Educational Travel, USA) has young men and women from Spain, Denmark, Italy, Thailand, Brazil, and more. Your international son or daughter will attend public school in your district and ride the bus. You will provide their meals, a bed, and lots of love! Through Mar 10, 2019: "SONS: Seeing the Modern African American Male."  More than 80 photographs of Muskegon men. Photography and video are used "to mimic the process of prejudging people…and reconciling prejudgments with realities."  At Muskegon Museum of Art, 296 West Webster Ave, Muskegon.

 Through Mar 30: "Enlightened Harmony": 20th-century Japanese Art from the Hesslink Collection.  Japanese prints, textiles, ceramics, and lacquers collected by John and Etta Hesslink in Japan.  At Kruizenga Art Museum, 271 Columbia Ave, Holland.

 --Or you can write a check to ACEH, c/o Treasurer Al Minert, Box 3007, Holland, MI 49422-3007;

--Or you can join at any ACEH program or social event.

  Dues are $20 per year for an individual ($35, two years);

 $30 per year for a couple or family ($50, two years);

 $40 for a nonprofit;

  $75 for a business. 

  In lieu of (or in addition to) paying dues, you may join as a service member, volunteering for the group.  ACEH is a 501c3 organization.  Our fiscal year is October 1 to September 30.
