Sun, Feb 16, 1 pm to 4:30 pm:  Taste of Soul Sunday 2020. Celebration of African American history and culture. Fri, Feb 21, 7 pm (support), 8:10 pm (program): PFLAG meeting. Discussion of "the importance of using pronouns and other tips for allies of the transgender community," led by Carlos Garay-Negrón & Finn Marcks, associated with Transgender Foundation. Gender SAFE (Supporting All For Equality) meets 6 to 8 pm.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

Sat, Feb 22, 3 pm (reception) 4 pm (program): Black History Month event: Continuing the Dream.  Reception runs from 3:15 to 3:55 pm in the lobby, followed in the auditorium by cultural music, African folktales by Miz Rosie, essay contest winners from Boys & Girls. (Doors to auditorium will close promptly at 4 pm so performers won't be interrupted. Black History t-shirts, giveaways, and more. LOOKING AHEAD: SAVE THE DATE!  The annual Community Potluck and Cultural Sharing Party of ACEH "All That Jazz!"  Come for live music and a program about the Michigan town of Idlewild where outstanding black entertainers performed when they were shut out of other venues in the state and nation.  Come for fellowship, great food, family activities, and a silent auction of goods and services.   It's Saturday, March 28, from 5 pm to 8:30 pm at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 57 West 10th St, Holland.

Community Opportunities

Election Inspectors Needed! 2020 will be an especially busy election year, including a Presidential Primary on March 10, a General Primary on August 4 and the General Election on November 3. The City of Holland is looking for Election Inspectors (the workers at the polls) for these dates and continuing into the following years; you are paid for hours worked. Community Investment Volunteers Needed:  Greater Ottawa County United Way seeks volunteers to help determine where funds raised during United Way's annual campaign are invested in the areas of education, financial stability/basic needs, health, and affordable housing.  Review applications, tour sites, meet to discuss programs' effectiveness.
