Tonight, Fri, Aug 3, 5 pm to 7 pm: Opening reception for "India: A Celebration of Our Common Humanity," photographs/paintings by Kandyce Kingsley and Kathy Kingsley, who seek to "bring attention and aid the problems facing millions of Indians, including casteism, severe agricultural pressure, and increasing economic disparity."  Also: Artists' talk at 7 pm and open India market, sale of clothes, purses, toys, and art from India.  At Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St, Holland.

 

Tonight, Fri, Aug 3, 7 pm: "Creating Peace -- in Iraq and at home" will be the theme of shared reflections and prayer at Holland's Peace Pole. Contact Sara Leeland, 616-335-2686. Sponsored by Lakeshore Women for Peace.  At  Smallenberg Park, Fairbanks and 16th St, Holland.

 

Sun, Aug 5, 1 pm to 4 pm: 9th annual Potluck in the Park of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony.  Everyone is welcome.  Please bring a dish to pass, one from your own ethnic background if possible.  ACEH provides beverages and table service.

Mon, Aug 6, 4 pm to 8 pm: Greater Holland Area National Night Out "to take a bite out of crime."  Kids' games, contests (limbo, hula hoop, pie eating, twist), dunk tank, bingo for seniors, music.  At Kollen Park, Van Raalte at 10th, Holland (Lake Macatawa).

The Summit on Racism Planning Team is preparing the 2008 Summit. We are designing the breakout sessions based on topics of interest (in the past the breakouts were designed for specific sectors, such as business or education).  PLEASE LET US KNOW WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING TOPICS YOU FIND OF INTEREST. Please also let us know of ANY TOPICS YOU FEEL ARE MISSING.
