Mon, Oct 12, 7 pm: Hope College Visiting Writers Series: Don Waters and Aracelis Girmay.  Waters' stories are set in the American Southwest. Girmay's poems reflect her Eritrean, Puerto Rican, and African American heritage.  At Knickerbocker Theatre, 86 East 8th St, Holland.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR CALLING ALL COLORS!

 Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance (LEDA) has an urgent need for 5 more volunteers to facilitate at its Calling All Colors high school conference, 9 am to 11 am, on Tuesday, Oct. 20.  Training for volunteers is Oct. 13 from 5 to 6 pm at Macatawa Resource Center, 665 136th Ave, Holland, OR on Oct 15 from 3 to 4 pm at White Pines Middle School, Grand Haven.  For information, or to sign up as a volunteer, contact Raechel at admin@ethnicdiversity.org or call (616) 846-9074.

ESL CLASSES:  Do you want to brush up on your English language skills, or know someone who does?  Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP) offers English as a Second Language classes three times a week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  A donation of $10 is requested but not required to enroll.  Registration IS required, by calling LAUP at (616) 392-5058.  Classes are held at the Martha Miller Center, 257 Columbia (corner of Columbia and 10th St), Holland.
