Tues, Sept 29, 7 pm: Holland Gang Reduction Committee meeting; open to individuals or organizations that work with teens.  Meeting to view and discuss the newly designed website of community activities that teens can access.  At Holland Police Station, 8th St and Pine Ave, Holland.

 

Mon, Oct 5, 3 pm: Performance by children's choir from Kenya, followed by reception.  Charles Mulli, founder of Mulli Children's Family, a children's rescue mission in Kenya, will be present.  For more information, contact Jonathan Hodge of GVSU at hodgejo@gvsu.edu  At Grand Valley State University Allendale campus, Kirkhof Center 2204, Allendale.

 

Wed, Oct 7, 11:30 am until 1 pm:  Business Connections Committee luncheon.  The BCC is part of the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce especially working with women- and minority-owned businesses. Speaker is Shawn Miller. $15 for chamber members; $20 others.  At Davenport University, 643 South Waverly Rd, Holland.

 

Mon, Oct 12, 7 pm: Hope College Jack Ridl Visiting Writers Series presents winners of 2009 Great Lakes College Association New Writers awards Don Waters and Aracelis Girmay.  Waters writes stories set in the American Southwest. Girmay is a poet whose works reflect her Eritrean, Puerto Rican, and African American heritage. At Knickerbocker Theatre, 86 East 8th St, Holland.

 

TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

 

Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP) is starting new computer classes beginning the week of October 19.  Classes meet once a week for six weeks, three hours at a time.  Classes offered are basic computer skills or advanced training.  A donation of $10 is requested at registration but not required for enrollment.  Call (616) 392-5058 to enroll.  Classes are held at the LAUP computer lab, Midtown Center, 16th St and Pine Ave, Holland.

 

Amway Global wants to hire customer care associates who are fluent in English and in Spanish, Russian, Korean or Mandarin, and who have business writing skills in both languages.  A new training class begins Monday, October 26.  Contact SE Manpower office at 957-0461 to set up an appointment for testing and interviews.
