TONIGHT, Tues, Sept 28, 6:45 pm: Celebration of 90th anniversary of League of Women Voters and the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote.  Local women who have been politically active will be honored, including ACEH member Becky Arenas, for her work in educating and registering voters and her early candidacies for city council and state representative.   At Herrick District Library, 300 South River, Holland.

 

Thurs, Sept 30, 7 pm: "Palestine and Israel: A Christian Peacemaking Perspective," by Dr. Tom and Rev. Dr. Sharon Arendshorst.  Free. In memory of local Peace With Justice Advocate Philip E. Beal.  Sponsored by Peace With Justice group of First United Methodist Church and some 20 other churches and groups, including ACEH.  At First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th St, Holland.  (See follow-up event below, Oct. 11.)

 

Thurs, Sept 30, through Oct. 9, 8 pm:  Play: "Lines: The Lived Experience of Race."  The "story of race, discrimination, and diversity in West Michigan," produced by Actors' Theatre and based on interviews with more than 150 area residents. Thurs, Oct 7, various times: Academic Consortium Conference: "Islam Beyond the Headlines."  Morning keynote, 10:30 am: "Where is the Love? Where is the Justice? Documentary:  "Viva La Causa: The Story of César Chávez and a Great Movement for Social Justice," about farmworkers who went on strike against California grape growers for better wages and working conditions.  Discussion facilitated by Rev. Mon, Oct 11, 7 pm: Forum on issues of peace with justice, related to Palestine and Israel.  This open, moderated discussion is a follow-up to the Sept 30 event (see above).  Moderators are Rev.
