Sessions include budgeting and property taxes; credit and affordability; real estate and home inspections; mortgages and insurance.  Workshop fulfills requirements for MSHDA loan financing. Participants must attend all four sessions to earn a certificate.  Photo ID, income verification required.  Sponsored by Community Action House. Invite family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.  At Ransom Park, Ransom Ave between 160th and 168th on Holland's north side.

 

Thurs, Aug 16, 10 am volunteer orientation/breakfast; 11 am to 3 pm, doors open for event: Project Homeless Connect offers individuals and families who are homeless or in housing crisis a central resource for services and information from local providers.  Volunteers are needed to be greeters and guides at varying times during the day.  Sponsored by Ottawa Area Housing Coalition. COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY

You are invited to participate in the 2012 Community Survey. The DELTA Project of Ottawa County is conducting this survey in partnership with the Teens Preventing Dating Violence class through the Upward Bound Summer Program. This survey asks community members about their thoughts on healthy relationships and how to prevent dating violence, domestic violence, and sexual violence. We welcome your participation and value your feedback. The primary audience for this survey is Ottawa County and any community member is welcome to take this survey. We ask that student participants be at least a freshman in high school or older. Thank you for your participation.

Mon, July 2, 7 pm: General meeting of Holland Is Ready, focusing on workplace discrimination; additional information from the documentary "Out at Work," with discussion. Presentation by Holland Community Energy Advisory Group.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

 

Fri, July 6, 5 pm: Premiere of "Speak Now," documentary about the life experiences of minoritiy people and their challenges living in the Holland area.  Produced by local high school students in LAUP's  Mas Adelante critical thinking and communication skills program and funded by a mini-grant from the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area.  At Herrick District Library Auditorium, 300 South River, Holland.

Friday, July 13, 6:30 to 8:45 pm (doors open at 6:15).  Community forum, "Destination Education," providing information on resources to help young people find a way to obtain post-secondary education (college or other training).   Learn the four steps to college; Know HOW 2 GO; information will be available in both English and Spanish.

 

--Who should attend: 7th to 12th graders, their parents, grandparents, mentors, community activists, friends, and youth-serving organizations.

 

 --Hosts: Presented by the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) and these collaborating organizations: Herrick District Library, City of Holland, Latin Americans United for Progress, Lakeshore Latino Outreach Center, TRIO/Upward Bound at Hope College, Center of African American Art and History, Juneteenth, and Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance.
