TONIGHT, Mon, Feb 11, 6 pm: "Brothers, Sisters, and Soldiers: Egypt's Transition to Democracy," by Dr. Annie Dandavati, 2012 Visiting Professor at the American University in Cairo and a professor at Hope College.  Part of World Affairs Council Great Decisions Foreign Policy Lecture Series.  $15 at the door; free parking.  At Aquinas College Performing Arts Center, 1607 Robinson Rd, SE, Grand Rapids.

 

Tues, Feb 12, 11 am:  Great Decisions 2013: "Feeding the Dragon: China in Africa," by Dr. Glenda Quarnstrom of Grand Valley State University.  Light lunch included, courtesy of Friends of Herrick District Library.  A program of the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan.  At Herrick District Library, 300 South River, Holland.

 

Tues, Feb 12, noon: "Asian Representation in the Media," by Christine Vo.  Part of 2013 Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration.  At Kirkhof Center, Room 2263, Grand Valley State University, Allendale.

 

Tues, Feb 12, 19, and 26, 6:30 to 8:30 pm:  Class, "Pathways to Freedom," by Dr. Fred L. Fri, Feb 15, 7 pm (film at 8 pm): PFLAG meeting showing 30-minute video "Coming Out-Coming In": Contemporary faith journeys of gay and lesbian Christians in North Carolina, followed by discussion. Support group meets at 7.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

Sun, Feb 17 – Fri, Feb 22, 7 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm): "Celebrating the Rich History of African American Women. Part 1: Preachers, pioneers, innovators, poets, civic leaders."   2013 Black History Month event, by Zion Dominion Church.  Each night a guest speaker will celebrate contributions, obstacles, sacrifice, and legacy of an outstanding African American woman. RACIAL EQUITY INSTITUTE
