In the Community Dec. 18

Thurs, Dec 19, 11 am to 11 pm:  "Eat Yogurt for Nuestra Casa"!  Fundraiser to help Nuestra Casa-The Gathering Place, a community center being constructed on 15th St near Van Raalte Ave, in central Holland.  Ten percent of the day's profits at Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt will be donated to Nuestra Casa.  Many "decadent and fruit-based" flavors, lots of toppings--enjoy yourself while helping a good cause.  At Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, 184 South River (just north of 8th St), Holland.
 
Fri, Dec 20, 7 pm (support group), 8 pm (viewing of exhibit):  PFLAG Holland/Lakeshore meeting featuring Photo-Text Exhibit: "We Have Faith." Photographs and stories of individuals speaking out about being discriminated against in religious settings; includes renowned clergy and people of many faiths and denominations, including United Church of Christ, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Catholic, Jewish, Congregational, Pentecostal, Muslim, Mormon, Unitarian Universalist, Reformed Church of America, MMC, Baptist, and Buddhist.  Punch and coffee provided; please bring a dessert or snack to share.  At Grace Episcopal Church, downstairs, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.
 
Wed, Jan 8, 12:30 pm:  Calvin College January Series: Speaker (by video): Isabel Wilkerson, "The Epic Story of America's Great Migration." A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Wilkerson spent 15 years interviewing 1,200 people for this epic nonfiction story of the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities in search of a better life.  From 1915 to 1970, "this exodus of almost 6 million people changed the face of America and has become known as the Great Migration."  Free.  At Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Rd, Holland.

City of Holland Recreation Division: Concessions Supervisor.  Part-time (28 hours a week or less; requires nights and weekends; seasonal April-September).  Variety of duties, including recruiting and training staff; daily operation of concession stand; making and serving food; ordering supplies; preparing daily financial reports; enforcing rules and regulations.  $10 to $12/hour; no benefits.
