Wed, Jan 8, 12:30 pm:  Calvin College January Series: Speaker (by video): Isabel Wilkerson, "The Epic Story of America's Great Migration." A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Wilkerson spent 15 years interviewing 1,200 people for this epic nonfiction story of the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities in search of a better life.  From 1915 to 1970, "this exodus of almost 6 million people changed the face of America and has become known as the Great Migration."  Free.  At Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Rd, Holland.
 
Fri, Jan 10:  The Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) will not hold its own general meeting in January, but encourages members and friends to attend Holland community and Hope College Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. events later this month.  Dates and times will be posted on "In the Community."
 
Mon, Jan 13, 6:30 pm:  Documentary film, "Free Angela" for 4th annual MLK@theMovies night.  Film is the story of Angela Davis, a 26-year-old UCLA professor committed to social activism who wound up on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list.  Uses archival footage "from one of the most highly politicized periods in American history."  Sponsored by Celebration!Cinema with Radio in Black and White and Partners for a Racism-Free Community.  Free but registration required, at https://celebrationcinema.com/angela.  In lieu of ticket cost, please bring a donation of school supplies.  At Celebration Cinema North, Grand Rapids.
 
Mon, Jan 13 – Sat, Jan 18, 7:30 pm:  Knickerbocker Film Series: "A Miracle in Spanish Harlem."
Humorous and romantic drama following the life of Tito Jimenez, a widower and father of two girls; "a story of love, sin, faith, and redemption"; cast includes Kate Del Castillo, one of Mexico's most popular actresses.  Rated PG; produced in the United States, released in 2013; in English.  $6 regular admission; $5 seniors.  At Knickerbocker Theatre, 86 East 8th St, Holland.
