Your dues  help pay for  this email and all the other Alliance  activities: $20 a year ($35/two years) for an individual; $30 a year ($50/two years) for a family; $40 for nonprofits; $75 for businesses.  The ACEH fiscal year is September 30 – October 1.

ACEH was founded in Holland in 1999 and is committed to justice, equal opportunity, cross-cultural understanding, and appreciation for diversity.  Members and friends work together through programs, outreach, advocacy, and social events to make West Michigan a place where all people are welcomed and respected. "In the Community" is also on the ACEH website.

TODAY, Mon, Sept 15, 4 pm: "The Founding of Nibakure Children's Village in Rwanda," by Floriane Brown.  Sponsored by Hope College groups.  At Martha Miller 135, Columbia Ave at 10th St, Holland.
 
Tues, Sept 16, 4 pm:  La Pause-Café.  Gathering every Tuesday for people interested in chatting with others in French (all levels of French are welcome).  Hosted by Hope College French department.  At Lemonjello's Coffee, 61 East 9th St, Holland.
 
Tues, Sept 16, 6:30 pm:  Final Tulipanes film: "Adelante," about an Irish-Catholic church just outside Philadelphia; through an Irish-American priest, young Mexican immigrants, and older Irish  parishoners, shows how different communities made mutual adjustments to create bonds of friendship and understanding. www.tulipanes.org  At St. Francis de Sales Church, Maple Ave at 13th St, Holland.
 
Thurs, Sept 18, 3 pm to 5 pm:  Volunteer Fair at Davenport University.  Representatives from 21 groups in the community, including ACEH, will be present with representatives to discuss volunteer opportunities.  todd.hubbard@davenport.edu  At Davenport University, 643 South Waverly, Holland.
 
Fri, Sept 19, 7 pm (support group); 8 pm (program):  PFLAG meeting to hear Rev. Salvatore Sapienza, pastor of Douglas Congregational UCC and a former monk of the Catholic church, who will speak about his book "Gay is a Gift," a guide on gay spirituality. He is also author of "Seventy Times Seven."  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

Sat, Sept 20, 3 pm to 9 pm: Lakeshore Street Party, sponsored by Local First.  Family-friendly event with local music, local food and beverage vendors, kids' activities with Boys and Girls Club.  Breakdancing by Circle Junkees.  At Washington Square, between 18th and 19th Sts, Holland.
 
Tues, Sept 23, 7 pm: Documentary, "Where There is Despair, Let Me Sow Hope," "transports you to developing countries to see what it would be like to live on $2 a day with no modern conveniences"; Q&A with Mary Dailey Brown, founder of SowHope International, which works to promote peace, protect children, and prevent trafficking.  Free; co-sponsored by Lakeshore Women for Peace and other groups, including ACEH.  At Herrick District Library, 300 S. River, Holland.
 
Tues, Sept 23, 7 pm:  Film, "Fruitvale Station," and discussion "Caring About Michael Brown Jr.: What are the Issues?  What Are the Inequities?"  Sponsored by Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance's Diversity Initiative of Northwest Ottawa County and Goodrich Quality Theaters.  Registration required, at www.ethnicdiversity.org  At Grand Haven 9 theater, 17220 Hayes St, Grand Haven.
 
Wed, Sept 24, 7 pm:  "Knowing Together, Growing Together: Racial Equity as a Key for the Future of Grand Rapids."  Presented by Dr. Manual Pastor, director of USC's program for environmental and regional equity.  Free, open to the public.  Sponsored by Spectrum Health.

Thurs, Sept 25, noon to 1 pm: Documentary film: "The State of Arizona": "Tracking the year after Arizona passed SB1070, its controversial 'papers please' law, film tells stories of people in Arizona on all sides of the issue and depicts a state and its people testing the edges of our democratic values."  Discussion follows. Free, open to the public.  Hosted by Spectrum Health and WGVU.  At Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus Auditorium, 100 Michigan St, NE, Grand Rapids.
