Mon, June 29, 7 pm: Program focusing on suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Free movie "Hope Bridge"; resources and information from Holland and Grand Haven organizations. Tues, June 30, 6 pm: Summer Service Play Group "The Red Bicycle." Topic: Transportation; Activity: Bicycle Parade; Service: bring $1 for a bicycle through World Vision USA ($100 buys a bike for a girl, opening the pathway to early education). Wed, July 1 (also July 8, 9, 16, 18, 22, 28, and August 8), 8 pm (also 1:30 pm on July 18): Hope Summer Repertory Theatre play "To Kill a Mockingbird," the cherished literary classic that explores racial injustice that threatens to divide a community. "Through courage and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks truth and justice, while his feisty daughter, Scout, learns what it means to be an instrument of hope." Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Harper Lee, the book was Holland's Big Read in 2014. Ticket prices vary. Mon, July 13, 7 pm: General meeting of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) Showing 40-minute documentary "Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot," produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center Teaching Tolerance project: "The story of courageous students and teachers, with other activists, who fought a nonviolent battle to win voting rights for African Americans in the South." Speakers will present information on voting rights and voter registration. Program is co-sponsored by TRIO/Upward Bound at Hope College. Everyone is welcome. At Winants Auditorium, Graves Hall, College Ave at 11th St, Holland.

Holland Citizen's Police Academy (HCPA): Taking applications for this year's class (Mondays, Sept. 14-Nov. 23, 6 pm to 9 pm). Free. Must be at least 17, no serious criminal record, live or work in greater Holland area. Presentations include OWI investigation, use of force, K-9 unit, narcotics enforcement, tours, domestic violence law, gang and anti-drug enforcement, probation programs, judicial system, department structure and organization, traffic and patrol, city ordinances and state laws, ride-a-long with an officer for a shift, firearms use and training. 355-1140.
