Tues, Sept 15, 7 pm (doors open 6:30 pm):  A Night of Bilingual Arts.  Live sketch comedy, videos, and music in Spanish and English; reception follows.  Free.  Presented by Alliance for Bilingual Arts in association with Tulipanes Film Festival.  At Holland Civic Theatre, 50 West 9th St, Holland.
 
Thurs, Sept 17, 7 pm: "Peace in the Holy Land is Possible":  Elias Chacour, retired archbishop of Galilee in Melkite Greek Catholic Church, author of "Blood Brothers," advocate for reconciliation between Arabs and Israelis.  (616) 994-0187.  Sponsored by Kairos West Michigan and others.  At St. Francis de Sales Church, 195 West 13th, Holland.
 
Thurs, Sept 17 – Sun, Sept 20.  6th annual Latin American Film Festival LA:FF.  Free. 14 films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela on contemporary subjects; all films have English subtitles.  Schedule at www.grlaff.org  At Wealthy Theatre, 1130 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids.
 
Fri, Sept 18, 5 pm – 9 pm:  Latino Art and Film: A Progressive Event.  
             5 pm: Ballet Folklorico dance troupe at Herrick District Library, 300 S. River, Holland.
             6 pm: Showcase of Mexican Revolution photographs on loan from  Mexican Consulate in Detroit, plus photos of Querétaro, Holland's Sister City, at Holland City Hall, 270 S. River.  
             7 pm: Tulipanes' film "Olvidados" (see www.tulipanes.org), plus photos from Central America by Sister Noella Poinsette, at Holland Civic Theatre, 50 West 9th St.   A light dinner will be available at the Civic Theatre, and tapas at the other locations.  Sponsored by Herrick District Library, City of Holland, GVSU, Tulipanes, LAUP, and St. Francis de Sales Parish.
 
Fri, Sept 18, 7 pm support group, 8 pm program: PFLAG.  Program on Trans Youth Family Allies (TYFA), a 501c3 organization founded in 2006: how it began, its advocacy work, and its main focus.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

Community Opportunities
Nuestra Comunidad Hispana.  An invitation to Hispanic Americans to record their stories as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.  Facilitators available to help the story teller in Spanish or English; stories will be displayed at LAUP annual dinner and other sites; participants will receive a copy of their photograph and story.  At Herrick District Library, 270 S. River, Holland: Mon, Sept 21, 3 pm-5 pm; Sat, Sept 26, 10 am-noon.
 
Screening for Breast Cancer:  Holland Hospital has a Komen Foundation grant to cover the cost of  mammograms and ultrasounds for Ottawa County women struggling to afford such tests.
