 Wed, Jan 11, 6:30 pm: Christians Seeking Perspective on Immigration Law and Policy.  Dialogue; education and information presented by attorney Sarah Yore Van Oosterhout, including information on what the law is today and what we can expect re law and policy in the months ahead.  Co-sponsored by Grace Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Hope Church RCA.   Open to the public.  At Hope Church RCA, 77 West 11th St, Holland.

 Thurs, Jan 12, 6 pm:  American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Lakeshore  meeting to introduce Holland-area residents to ACLU of Michigan and West Michigan.  At Room 104, Grand Valley State University Meijer campus, 515 South Waverly Rd, Holland.

 Sat, Jan 14, 9 am to 11 am:  "Coffee with Council."   Holland city residents can share ideas, remarks, and concerns about current issues with the mayor, council members, city manager, and city staff.  Language translation available on request.  "Hot Chocolate with HYAC" will be at the same time and place with student members of the Holland Youth Advisory Council who serve on city commissions.  Sun, Jan 15, 9:40 am: Holland's Youth Programs, including ESCAPE Ministries and CASA at Hope CollegePart of the Reconciliation Adult Education Series; open to everyone.  At Hope Church RCA, 77 West 11th St, Holland.

 Tues, Jan 17, 6:30 pm: Allies Working for Social Justice and Environmental Progress.  Meeting to finalize strategies from December meeting and plan for action to implement goals.  If planning to attend, register by accessing www.ethnicdiversity.org and following prompts to this event. Wed, Jan 18, 6:30 pm to 8 pm:  First meeting of 10-session citizenship class.  Free.  Students will prepare for U.S. citizenship test and receive help with filling out the N-400 Application for Naturalization.  After the 10 classes are over, students will have the option to attend a legal clinic with immigration attorneys for a $30 fee.  For information or to register, contact Rachel Ortega at 399-9097 or email Bev Stephenson at bstephen@charter.net  At Intersection Ministries, 945 136th Ave, Holland (enter through north door of church building).

 Fri, Jan 20, 7 pm support group; 8:10 pm program: PFLAG meeting.  Includes brief quiz about famous people from the LGBT community and viewing of a DVD ("Living with Pride: Ruth Ellis@100"), about the oldest known African American lesbian.  Trans group meets from 6 to 7 pm.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

 Community Opportunity: Reciprocal Language Partnership

The Reciprocal Language Partnership (RLP) classes pair native English speakers who want to learn Spanish with native Spanish speakers who want to learn English. Class fee is on a sliding scale based on household income.  Winter 2017 classes will run Tuesdays from 6 pm to 8:15 pm, Jan 17 to Apr 18, with instruction for basic beginners and one for higher-level beginners.  Classes and informational meetings (see below) are held at Eagle's Wings Church/Iglesia Alas de Aguila, 635 Riley St, Holland.  Questions? Annual Heart 2 Heart Community Celebration.  A Potluck and Cultural Sharing Party, hosted by the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH).  Music, performances, silent auction, family activities, fabulous food, fun, fellowship.  Everyone is welcome!  At First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th St, Holland.
