 Sat, July 8, 8 am until 9 am:  Granth Dindi parade.  This Hindu  parade—never before seen in the U.S.—includes drummers, dancers, objects held on palanquins. Hosted by the Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal of North America conference being held in Grand Rapids to "network and strengthen partnerships between the U.S. and a specific region in India, the state of Maharashtra, which includes the city of Mumbai.  Parade starts in front of DeVos Place and ends at Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids.

 Tues, July 18, 6 pmAlliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) and TRIO/Upward Bound: Showing excerpts of the award-winning documentary "13th" followed by interactive program with adults and teens.  Community is invited; refreshments provided by Upward Bound.  At Winants Auditorium, Graves Hall, Hope College campus, College Ave at 11th St, Holland.

 Tues, July 25, 6 pm: Documentary film: "Riot, Race, Reconciliation," followed by panel discussion.  Hosted by GRAAMA, Grand Rapids African American Museum and Archives.  At GVSU Loosemore Auditorium, 40l Fulton St, W, Grand Rapids

 Community Opportunities

Middle School Kayak Camp Scholarships:  Full and partial scholarships are available for middle school students (entering 6th to 8th grades) to attend Kayak Camp at Connor Bayou County Park Thursday, July 27, 9 am to 4:30 pm.  Instruction on shore and in the water; info and activities re Crockery Creek.  Camp is part of Ottawa County Parks & Recreation.  Citizenship classes:  Escape Ministries is hosting 10 weeks of citizenship classes; participants will prepare for the civics/history exam, practice English, and get help with their applications to become naturalized U.S. citizens.  Classes are Tuesday mornings (10:30 am to noon) beginning Aug. 1; the application legal clinic will be Saturday, Sept 30.  Call (616) 396-4481 to enroll.

 Looking Ahead: Save August 13 for Potluck in the Park!

ACEH will hold its 19th annual Potluck in the Park on Sunday, August 13, from 1 to 4 pm at the Kollen Park Band Shell.  Come enjoy fun, fellowship, music, family activities, and great food.  Please bring a dish to share from your cultural background.  ACEH provides table service and beverages.
