 Sat, Aug 12, 7:30 pm:  Community Pops Concert: "South of the Border."  Free concert by Holland Symphony Orchestra featuring music of and inspired by culture and heritage of Central and South America.  Donations accepted.  At Kollen Park Band Shell, Lake Macatawa, Holland.

Sunday, August 13, Potluck in the Park!

ACEH will hold its 19th annual Potluck in the Park on Sunday, August 13, from 1 to 4 pm at the Kollen Park Band Shell, by Lake Macatawa in Holland.  (Parking lot off 12th St)

 Come enjoy fun, fellowship, music, family activities, games, piƱata, and great food.  Invite someone new in the community!

 Please bring a generous dish to share from your cultural background, and lawn chairs for extra seating.  ACEH provides table service and beverages.  Questions?  Able to volunteer at the Potluck?  Please call 396-2201 or email aceh@harmonyalliance.org

 Mon, Aug 14, 6 pm:  Documentary film: "After Spring," about Syrian refugee crisis.  Part of Holland's International Relations Commission's This New American Life quarterly film series.  Follows two refugee families in transition at Zaatari, a refugee camp in Jordan housing 80,000 people.  Kristine Van Noord of Bethany Christian Services' Refugee Adult and Family Program will attend; she lived in the Middle East for 5 years and speaks Arabic.  At Herrick District Library auditorium, 300 South River Ave, Holland.

 Thurs, Aug 17, 6 pm to 8 pm:  Donation drive event to aid refugee families in West Michigan. Organized by Women's Issues Group, with Bethany Christian Services to collect personal hygiene and personal care items, cleaning and cooking supplies, household goods, towels, blankets, diapers, plastic storage containers, more.  On Facebook, go to Womens Issues: Holland MI   At Nuestra Casa/The Gathering Place, 253 West 15th St, Holland.

 Fri, Aug 18, 7 pm:  History Walk and Campfire: The OttawaInteractive program with a hike led by state park staff, re uses of natural resources throughout history.  A campfire and conversation will highlight the Ottawa Indians "to learn how they and others of the Three Fires groups utilized West Michigan before the settlers arrived."  Free, open to the public.  At Holland State Park Campground (at west end of Ottawa Beach Rd), Lake Macatawa.

 Fri, Aug 18, 7 pm:  PFLAG meeting.   Jamie Colburn, actor and theater producer/director ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "Sweeny Todd"), will speak about growing up queer in Holland.  Trans group meets at 6 pm.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland.

 Wed, Sept 6.  10th annual MI Response to Hate Conference, focusing on anti-bias/anti-hate issues.  Register now at http://miaahc.com/mi-response-to-hate-2017/  Hosted by Michigan Alliance Against Hate Crimes.  At MSU Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, South Harrison Rd, East Lansing.

 Sat, Sept 9, 5 pm:  Le Style de Vie, fundraiser to benefit Center for Women in Transition "for their mission of ending domestic and sexual violence in Ottawa and Allegan counties."  Live music, style show, raffles, wine and craft beer tasting.  Hosted by Butch's Dry Dock, Globe Design & Vision, Studio K Clothing Company.   Tickets at www.cwitmi.org (Click on Get Involved and scroll to Events); $55 per person.  At tent behind Butch's Dry Dock, 44 East 8th St, Holland.

                        

Fri, Sept 15, 8:30 am – 4 pm:  Welcoming Michigan: Statewide Convening.  Building Immigrant-Friendly Communities.  Community members and municipal partners "learn from each other and share promising practices for fostering more inclusive communities."  Keynote speaker Tracy Keza, whose Hijabs & Hoodies photographs explore intersection between anti-blackness and Islamophobia.  Other speakers, workshops.  Cost is $30.  Sept 21-24: 17th annual Tulipanes Latino Art & Film Festival.  This year's event is  presented under the auspices of Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP).  More info in September ACEH Newsletter.
