 TONIGHT, Fri, Nov 10, 7 pm:  General meeting of Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH): Discussion of community's Big Read book "When the Emperor Was Divine." Facilitated by librarian Abbey Stroop and Erik Parsons of Herrick District Library.  Everyone is welcome.  396-2201. At Holland Museum, 31 West 10th St, Holland.

 Sat, Nov 11, 11 am:  Big Read event: Author Amy Lee-Tai will read from her children's book "A Place Where the Sunflowers Grow," about a Japanese-American child who finds hope in an internment camp.  At Herrick District Library children's area, 300 S. River.

 Tues, Nov 14, 5:30 reception, 6:45 pm dinner and program:  Dutch-American 2017 Heritage Day.   Speaker: Vincent Willem van Gogh, great-grandson of the painter Vincent Van Gogh's brother, Theo van Gogh.  Reservations at (616) 726-8010 or email info@wmdutch-americanheritage.com   At Pinnacle Center, 3330 Highland Dr, Hudsonville.

 Tues, Nov. 14, 7 pm:  "Watermelons, Nooses, and Straight Razors: Stories from the Jim Crow Museum."  Presentation by Dr. David Pilgrim, founder and director of the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University; he will "examine the origins and significance of several long-standing anti-black stories and the caricatures and stereotypes that undergird them."  Wed, Nov 15, 7 pm: "The American DREAMer: From Undocumented to Wall Street and Immigration Advocacy," by Julissa Arce, author, immigration and education advocate;  chair, Ascend Education Fund.  GRCC Diversity Lecture Series XXIII, hosted by GRCC Woodrick Center for Equity and Inclusion.  At Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain SE, Grand Rapids.

 Thurs, Nov 16, 7 pm to 9 pm: Closing event of The Big Read, showcasing artwork by hundreds of area students; includes projects by Big Read Holland Area artists-in-residence Joel Schoon-Tanis and Barry Elz.  At Holland Armory, 16 West 9th St.

 Fri, Nov 17, 7 pm:  PFLAG meeting.  For Transgender Day of Remembrance, group will view part of the documentary "The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson."  Gender SAFE (Supporting All For Equality) will meet at from 6 to 7 pm.  At Grace Episcopal Church, 555 Michigan Ave, Holland

  Dues are $20 per year for an individual ($35, two years); $30 per year for a couple or family ($50, two years); $40 for a nonprofit; and $75 for a business.  In lieu of (or in addition to) paying dues, you may join as a service member, volunteering for the group.  ACEH is a 501c3 organization.  The fiscal year is October 1 – September 30.
