Wed, Sept 12, 7:30 pm: Concert by "Choro das 3." Family-based Brazilian band of three sisters and their father on a variety of instruments; its main style is Choro music, which emerged in Brazil in the 19th century and is described in U.S. terms as "the New Orleans jazz of Brazil." Fri, Sept 14, 7:30 pm: "Tres Vidas." Chamber music theatre work by Core Ensemble (cello, piano, percussion), with Jenyvette Vegas performing as legendary Latin American women Frida Kahlo, Rufina Amaya, Alfonsina Storni. Includes songs from Mexico, El Salvador, Argentina; vocal and instrumental pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, Osvaldo Golijov. Free. Community Opportunities
Reciprocal Language Partnership: Classes for English speakers who wish to learn Spanish and Spanish speakers who want to learn English: Basic levels 1 and 2 and intermediate classes (depending on sufficient numbers of students). Your dues are needed to help pay for "In the Community," our monthly Newsletter, educational programs, partnerships with other groups, outreach and advocacy, and community social events twice a year.
