 Sat, Aug 25, 7 pm:  HOSA (Holland's Openly Secular Alliance) community gathering at a private home in Holland to hear a local resident share their secular journey.  Religious allies and friends are welcome.  Contact openwin@mcn.org for the address.

 Thurs, Sept 6, 5:15 pm reception, 6 pm program: "Mexico-US Relations: A Storied Past and a Hopeful Future."  Presentation by Fernando Gonzalez Saiffe, Michigan Consul General for Mexico.  Hosted by Holland International Relations Commission.  At Holland City Hall Council Chambers, 270 South River, Holland.

 Sat, Sept 8, 10 am to 9 pm; Sun, Sept 9, 10 am to 4 pm:  57th annual Grand Valley American Indian Pow Wow.  Family-friendly event.  Authentic American Indian food, crafts, entertainment.  At Riverside Park, Grand Rapids.

 Fri, Sept 14, 7:30 pm: "Tres Vidas."  Chamber music theatre work by Core Ensemble (cello, piano, percussion), featuring Rosa Rodriguez as the legendary Latin American women Frida Kahlo, Rufina Amaya, and Alfonsina Storni.  Music includes popular and folk songs from Mexico, El Salvador, and Argentina, and vocal and instrumental pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, and Osvaldo Golijov.  Free.  At Hope College DeWitt Main Theatre, Columbia Ave at 11th St, Holland.

 Tues, Sept 18, 7 pm: "Choose the Path of Peace": Observance of the International Day of Peace, hosted by Lakeshore Women for Peace and 14 churches and organizations, including ACEH.  Speaker Kyle Kooyers and four panelists will explore everyday choices people can make on the path of peace.  At Herrick District Library, 300 S. River, Holland.

 Community Opportunities

Reciprocal Language Partnership:  Classes for English speakers who wish to learn Spanish and Spanish speakers who want to learn English: Basic levels 1 and 2 and intermediate classes (depending on sufficient numbers of students).  Classes begin September 11. All prospective students must attend one or the other of information meetings listed below, which are held at Eagle's Wings Church, 635 Riley St, Holland.
