Thurs, June 24, 7 pm: Documentary: One-hour film, "Out in the Silence," sponsored by Holland Is Ready and the Holland/Lakeshore chapter of Parents and Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) as a PRIDE event to support GLBT rights.  Film will be preceded at 6 pm by a picnic in Centennial Park across from the theater; bring your own food. Sat, June 26, 8 am until 5 pm: Garage sale to benefit Lakeshore Latino Outreach Center's program of services to clients.  Items will include clothes, furniture, electronics, and much more.  (616) 499-4872.  At the Center office, 345 East 16th St, Holland.

Sat, July 3, noon until midnight:  First annual Midwest Tejano Festival.  Live Tejano music, Tejano dance contest, family activities, jalapeno eating contest, mechanical bull, more.  Pre-sale ticket costs: $10 adults, $5 teens (age 13-17), under age 12, free. Fri, July 9, 7 pm: General meeting of Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony; public is invited.  Speaker Al Serrano, interactive program on the work and challenges of the Holland Human Relations Commission.  At Holland Museum, 31 West 10th St, Holland.

 

Tues, July 13, 6 pm: Foreclosure Prevention workshop sponsored by Community Action House and city of Holland.  Information about the foreclosure process, options, and the new federal Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), including eligibility requirements, how to apply, etc.  Workshop is free, but registration is required; call Margarita Hernandez, (616) 738-1170.  At Holland City Hall, second floor, 270 South River, Holland.

 

Sat, July 31, 12:30 pm (check-in 11 am): 1st annual IRC Friendship Golf Outing, 4-person scramble, sponsored by city of Holland International Relations Commission. $85 per person (30 percent of fee is tax-deductible). Sun, Aug 8, 1 pm until 4 pm: 12th Annual Potluck in the Park of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony; everyone is welcome.  Bring a dish to pass from your ethnic background; ACEH provides beverages and table service.  Entertainment, activities.  Invite family, friends, neighbors, co-workers; greet old friends and meet new people.  Information: 392-5086.  At Ransom Park on Holland's north side between 160th and 168th, north of Quincy and south of New Holland St.
