Come Out for Fun, Fellowship, and Food!

 

Sun, Aug 8, 1 pm until 4 pm: 12^th Annual Potluck in the Park of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony; everyone is welcome.  Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, and a dish to pass from your ethnic background; ACEH provides beverages and table service.  Entertainment, activities.  Invite family, friends, neighbors, co-workers; greet old friends and meet new people.  Information: 399-5322 or 335-8139.  At Ransom Park on Holland's north side: Ransom Street between 160^th and 168^th, north of Quincy and south of New Holland St.

Wed, July 21, 7 pm: 30^th District State Senate candidates' forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters – Holland Area.  Invited candidates are John Chester, Arlan Meekhof, Timothy O'Donnell, and Brett VanderKamp.  Forum to be taped by Mac TV and broadcast several times; also available online at www.macmedia.org  At Herrick District Library, 300 South River, Holland..

 

Sun, July 25, 5:30 potluck supper, 7 pm poetry sharing: Peace Event: Peace Poetry at the Peace Pole, organized by Lakeshore Women for Peace, co-sponsored by other local organizations. At Smallenberg Park, Fairbanks Ave. north of 16^th St, Holland.  (Potluck supper at pavilion; bring dish to share & own table service; water and lemonade provided; poetry sharing at Peace Pole).

 

Thurs, July 29, 7 pm:  Film: "Papers the Movie: Stories of Undocumented Youth."  Community showing to provide information about challenges faced by immigrant youth—brought to the U.S. as children--as they turn 18 without legal status; and to encourage support for passage of the federal Dream Act.  The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors [DREAM] Act is bipartisan legislation introduced in Congress several times to create a path for these youth to earn legal residency by attending college or serving in the military. Local candidates for political office will be invited to state their position on the Dream Act. No charge, but donations accepted. At Park Theater, 248 South River, Holland.

 

Sat, July 31, 12:30 pm (check-in 11 am): 1^st annual IRC Friendship Golf Outing, sponsored by Holland International Relations Commission. $85 per person.  Proceeds to support exchanges between Holland and its sister city, Querétaro, Mexico.  355-1328 or hrc@cityofholland.com  At Winding Creek Golf Club, 4514 Ottogan St, Holland.

 

Mon, Aug 2, 5 pm until 8 pm: 19^th annual National Night Out party: "Celebrating Neighborhood Spirit."   Games, pie-eating contest, bingo, dunk tank, car show, water rescue demonstration, hot dogs (for first 2,000 people).  Recognition of best block party, most improved block, business of the year, volunteer of the year, and good neighbor of the year.  Sponsored by City of Holland, and many local organizations and businesses. 355-3133.
