Fri, July 9, 7 pm: General meeting of Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony; public is invited.  Speaker Al Serrano, director of the Holland Human Relations Commission, on the work and challenges of the Commission.  Also, viewing of the museum's "Smile" exhibit featuring residents of diverse backgrounds.  At Holland Museum, 31 West 10^th St, Holland.

 

Mon, July 12, 7 pm: Public forum of candidates for the 2^nd Congressional District seat.  Topics include the economy, global issues, and environmental concerns.  Forum will be taped by MacTV and shown on TV and online at www.macmedica.org.  Sponsored by League of Women Voters-Holland Area.  At Zeeland High School DeWitt Auditorium, 3333 96^th Ave, Zeeland.

 

Tues, July 13, 6 pm: Foreclosure Prevention workshop sponsored by Community Action House and city of Holland.  Information on the foreclosure process, options, and the new Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). Mon, Aug 2, 5 pm until 8 pm: 19^th annual National Night Out party: "Celebrating Neighborhood Spirit."   Games, pie-eating contest, bingo, dunk tank, car show, water rescue demonstration, hot dogs (for first 2,000 people).  Recognition of best block party, most improved block, business of the year, volunteer of the year, and good neighbor of the year.  Sponsored by City of Holland, and many local organizations and businesses. 355-3133. Sun, Aug 8, 1 pm until 4 pm: 12^th Annual Potluck in the Park of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony; everyone is welcome.  Bring lawn chairs or a blanket, and a dish to pass from your ethnic background; ACEH provides beverages and table service.  Entertainment, activities.  Invite family, friends, neighbors, co-workers; greet old friends and meet new people.  Information: 399-5322 or 335-8139.  At Ransom Park on Holland's north side between 160^th and 168^th, north of Quincy and south of New Holland St.
