Sat, Dec 3, 5 pm to 8:30 pm:  Annual Holiday Potluck and Cultural Sharing Party of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH). 

Please bring a dish to share, from your own heritage, and a nonperishable food or personal hygiene item for a local food bank. ACEH provides beverages and table service.

 

Activities include Hoppin' Boppin' Table Mixer; Magic by Maciek; clay art by Annie Olson; balloon animals by Kim Romero; music; more.

Sun, Dec 4, 3 pm to 5 pm: Benefit for Mothers Trust Mothers Place, with a wide variety of music, including kirtans, baghans, jazz, classical, space music, peace chants in Sanskrit; concludes with Peace Drumming (all are welcome to bring own drums). Donations of $5 or more. At 6676 122nd Ave, Ganges.

 

Tues, Dec 6, 4 pm to 5:30 pm: Display of Hope College Phelps Scholars' research posters around the theme "Creating Community Together," with students addressing topics that involve creating community across difference. Public is invited.  At Maas Auditorium, Columbia Ave at 11th St, Holland.

 

 

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY 

The Center of African American Art and History (CAAAH) will hold its grand opening in Holland on January 16, 2012 (the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr), at 21 West 16th Street. The museum will feature exhibits and commemorations of history-making events; Dr. King and his life story; history of African Americans in Holland; the underground railroad; replicas of a slave ship and life on a cotton plantation; what African Americans are contributing today, and much more.
