Sat, Sept 15, 10 – 11 am: Sign-up date for All For One dance classes, ages 6 through 18: Mexican Folklorico, jazz, hip-hop/Latin/African.  $35 for 8 weeks.  Classes start Sat, Sept 22, at 9 am.  All For One is looking for people to donate or sell their Mexican Folklorico skirts, blouses, shoes for students needing practice clothes for classes. moonchild1993@yahoo.com  t Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th, Holland.

 

Sun, Sept 16, 5 pm (Potluck Picnic), 6:30 pm (presentations): Celebration of International Day of Peace, hosted by Lakeshore Women for Peace and Holland Peacemakers.  Bring dish to share, lawn chairs, table service; beverages provided.  Bring a poem, song, reading, or presentation related to peace.  Event canceled if it rains. At Holland Peace Pole, Smallenberg Park, Fairbanks Ave. near 16th St, Holland.

 

Tues, Sept 18, 7 pm:  Dramatic presentation by Lois B. Owens of GVSU who "changes voices and hats to recreate an imaginary debate" between Susan B. Anthony, co-founder of the National Women's Suffrage Association, and Ida B. Wells, investigative journalist who documented lynchings of black men in the South, and a founder of the National Association of Colored Women.  Cosponsored by Holland League of Women Voters and Hope College Women's Studies.  At Winants Auditorium, Graves Hall, College Ave at 11th St, Holland.

 

Wed, Sept 19, 4 pm to 6 pm: Public forum on the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, co-hosted by Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR) and Grand Rapids Community Relations Commission "regarding the impact that anti-discrimination policies have on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) individuals." Written and verbal testimony accepted.  At GRCC, DeVos Campus, Sneden Hall, Room 108, 415 Fulton SE, Grand Rapids.

 

Wed, Sept 19, 7 pm: Bread for the World president and World Food Prize Laureate Rev. Fri, Sept 21, 11 am: Spanish story time for children and parents ("Tiempo de Cuentos en Español").  Hear stories, sing songs, do crafts (Escuchando cuentos, cantando canciones, y haciendo manualidades).  Also Oct 5 and 19; Novr 2, 16, and 30; Dec 14. Tues, Sept 25, and Wed, Sept 26: Hope College Critical Issues Symposium "Reconciliation: Hope in a Divided World."  www.hope.edu/cis/ for full schedule. Tues: 7 pm keynote: Miroslav Volf, director of Yale Center for Faith and Culture, professor of theology at Yale.  Wed 9 am keynote: Mark Charles, speaker, writer and consultant from Fort Defiance, AZ on the Navajo Reservation.  Both at Dimnent Chapel, Hope College, College Ave at 12th St, Holland.
