The dues are $20 a year ($35/two years) for an individual; $30 a year ($50/two years) for a family; $40 for nonprofits; $75 for businesses.

Tues, Jan 8, noon: Calvin College January Series: "Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion and Truth in the Immigration Debate," by Jenny Yang, director of advocacy and policy, Refugee and Immigration Program at World Relief.  In person at Calvin College Covenant Center, 3201 Burton Ave SE, Grand Rapids; via webcast at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Rd, Holland.
 
Thurs, Jan 10, 6:30 pm (note change of usual date, time, and location): General meeting of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony; film and discussion "Education under Fire: Persecutions of Baha'is in Iran".  David Douglas will facilitate, with Shahnaz Damasio, Sundra Maytan, and Kim Douglas. Sun, Jan 13, 3 to 5 pm: Open house for Shower of Stoles exhibit; includes 75 pieces from the Shower of Stoles collection of over one thousand theological stoles that "celebrate the gifts of LGBT persons...while also bearing witness to the pain that the Church has caused in denying them full inclusion."  Tues, Jan 15, noon: Calvin College January Series: "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," by Rebecca Skloot: the "collision between ethics, race, and medicine; scientific discovery and faith healing; a story connected to the dark history of experimentation on African Americans." In person at Calvin College Covenant Center, 3201 Burton Ave SE, Grand Rapids; via webcast at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap, Holland.
 
Wed, Jan 16, 7 pm: 2012 Social Justice Awards will be presented by the Holland Human Relations Commission at a meeting of Holland City Council.  At City Hall, 270 South River, Holland. *Rev. Bill Freeman will receive the Government/Community Award for his work in bringing together people of different beliefs and for starting a Saturday breakfast at Community Kitchen that serves 100+ people each week.  Rev. Freeman leads All Spirits (formerly Interfaith) congregation in Holland and a Unitarian church in Muskegon.  He and his wife, Kathleen, are ACEH members.  Congratulations, Bill!

Mon, Jan 21, 7 pm: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration: "Strength to Love."  Led by Rev. Denise Grier and Rev. Wayne Coleman.  4 pm: Youth Rally.  At Maple Avenue Ministries, 427 Maple, Holland.
 
Tues, Jan 22, 11:30 am: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon: "What Is This Dream All About?" by keynote speaker Dr. John Lee, Ph.D., of MSU. Tues, Jan 22, noon: Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON) fundraiser focused on immigration and social justice issues that impact communities and congregations.  Short documentary "Jasmine's Story" followed by discussion with Jasmine Franco and Rev. Melanie Carey and presentation by Dr. Stephen Monsma, author of "Healing for a Broken World: Christian Perspectives on Public Policy."  Includes lunch (suggested donation $15); register at www.JFONWestMichigan.org or call Mary De Ridder at (616) 399-2161.   JFON provides immigration legal services, education, and advocacy in Grand Rapids and Holland. Sun, Jan 27, 4 pm: Film, "The Line."  40-minute documentary by Emmy Award-winning producer Linda Midgett  that asks viewers to reconsider their stereotypes about people who live in poverty.  Discussion follows.  At Hope Church, 77 West 11th St, Holland.
 
Mon, Feb 4, 7 pm: 2013 Phelps Scholars Schregardus Lecture: "Faces Seen, Hearts Unknown: Latino Students and College Persistence," by Yolanda Vega of the Hope College Upward Bound office.  At Winants Auditorium, Graves Hall, College Ave at 11th St, Holland.
