Mon, Apr 15 – Sat, Apr 27: First Latin IS America festival exploring
interwoven Latin American and U.S. cultures through music, art, films,
plays, and scholarly discussions. Free and ticketed events; open to
the public; coordinated through the MSU College of Music with other

Tues, Apr 16, 11 am: Çudamani, an ensemble from the village of
Pengosekan, Bali, Indonesia, performs music and dance of "contemporary
vitality and dedicated to Balinese traditions." Hope College Global

Wed, Apr 17, 11:30 am: Minority Business Awards Luncheon of Michigan
West Coast Chamber of Commerce. Honors Minority Business of the Year
and Outstanding Advocate for Minority-Owned Business. Presentation by

Michigan." Fred Stella, host of WGVU Interfaith Dialogue Association
show, "explains core beliefs of the many faiths in our neighborhoods
and helps dispel myths and stereotypes associated with various

Center for Women in Transition, with author Mary Karr ("The Liar's

hear Jim Lucas, founder of GIFT (Gays in Faith Together), discuss the

Sun, Apr 21, 5:30 (dinner); 7 pm (play): Fundraiser for Thrive, a
program to assist refugees. Includes ethnic dinner, silent auction,
documentary play, and panel discussion on refugees and becoming

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES
The Center for Women in Transition assembles May Baskets of household
cleaning products and personal care items for its clients. Bring
contributions to CWIT at 411 Butternut weekdays 9 am-5 pm or Thursday

Holland Area PRIDE Festival is seeking musicial entertainers to perform
at various times during the event, 1 pm-6 pm, Saturday, June 29, in
Centennial Park, Holland. Contact Karen at (616) 392-4262 by April 27.

Estelle Lemouel Schemel, who has attended ACEH events with her family,
is representing LEC, a French organization that arranges stays for
French students in the U.S.; she is looking for host families in the
Holland/Zeeland area for July 9-29 or August 6-26; Estelle, who lives
in Zeeland, will coordinate students' arrival and departure and be
available during their stay. Most are ages 15-18. Contact her about
