Tues, July 8, 7 pm:  Kickoff meeting of Kairos Community-Holland USA group, part of a national network  "seeking to bring about changes for the better in Israel/Palestine."  Speaker is Dr. Ron Caldwell of Glen Arbor, with the story of Palestinian Daoud Nasser, owner of a  farm (Tent of Nations), who had 1,500 fruit trees destroyed and covered with rubble.  For information, contact friendsforpeace8@gmail.com  At Herrick District Library auditorium, 300 South River, Holland.

The Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) will hold its 16th annual Potluck in the Park on Sunday, August 10, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Dunton Park, off Douglas/Ottawa Beach Road, Holland.

Research Study on Diverse Religious Faiths
Hope College psychology department professor Dr. Daryl Van Tongeren is seeking people of diverse religious faiths to take part in research on religious attitudes and beliefs.  Participants will complete surveys and provide their opinions during a one-hour study session.  The study's announcement says: "You will receive $10 for participating; you will add to the scientific understanding of religious traditions that have not been studied very much at all; your efforts will provide a valuable contribution to understanding the richness of religious beliefs; you may even enjoy taking the survey and reflecting on your own beliefs."  To apply to participate, email researchstudy@hope.edu
 
Junior Police Academy
Three-week free summer academy (July 21 – August 7; Mon-Thurs, 8 am-1 pm) hosted by Holland Police Department for local students who have just completed the 6th or 7th grade.  Classroom instruction and recreation; topics: court and probation system, fire department, 911, traffic enforcement, firearms/use of force, crime scene investigation; discuss creating laws, cultural sensitivity/prejudice, goal-setting/responsibility.  Various requirements to participate.
