Members and friends work together through programs, outreach, advocacy, and social events to make West Michigan a place where all people are welcomed and respected. Tues, Oct 21, 6:30 pm: Program on bullying and how to "foster a safe and inclusive learning environment for all in local schools." Short documentary "Bullied," followed by small-group discussions and sharing of ideas. Student leaders, faculty advisors, counselors, administrators from local schools will take part. Sat, Oct 25, 5 pm socializing; 5:30 pm dinner; 7 pm cultural programs: 2014 Diwali Celebrations. Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, "is a Hindu festival celebrated in autumn that spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair." The Big Read Holland: In November, Hope College, Herrick District Library, Holland Museum, plus local churches, businesses, and organizations will host a variety of community programs around the classic, Pulitzer Prize-winning book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.
