Your dues  help pay for  this email and all the other Alliance  activities: $20 a year ($35/two years) for an individual; $30 a year ($50/two years) for a family; $40 for nonprofits; $75 for businesses.                   The ACEH fiscal year is October 1 to September 30.

ACEH was founded in Holland in 1999 and is committed to justice, equal opportunity, cross-cultural understanding, and appreciation for diversity.  Members and friends work together through programs, outreach, advocacy, and social events to make West Michigan a place where all people are welcomed and respected. "In the Community" is also on the ACEH website.

Tues, Oct 21, 6:30 pm: Program on bullying and how to "foster a safe and inclusive learning environment for all in local schools."  Short documentary "Bullied," and small-group discussions and sharing of ideas.  Student leaders, faculty advisors, counselors, local school administrators will take part.  Supported by Holland is Ready and PFLAG.  Refreshments from Lemonjellos.  RSVP to jimdumerauf@me.com  At Herrick District Library, 300 S. Sat, Oct 25, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm:  Art project: Making painted rock skulls, as part of the community's Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos observance. $10 for first child; $5 each additional child.  At Holland Area Arts Council, 150 East 8th St, Holland.
 
Sat, Oct 25, 2 pm:  Alliance for Bilingual Arts opening workshop to "explore potential of bilingual performance in the community and ways to develop artistic projects that connect citizens representing different language/ethnic groups."  This workshop will focus on bilingual poetry in Spanish and English.  Cooperative effort of Hope College and Holland Civic Theatre, with workshop by John Tammi and Brian Everitt.  Free, open to the public (high school age and older).  Register by calling 395-7600 or 396-2021.  At Holland Civic Theatre, 50 West 9th St, Holland.

Thurs, Oct 30, 8 am to noon:  REDI (Racial Equity Diversity & Inclusion Seminars) seminar focusing on Education.  Explores role that various issues play in shaping of unequal learning outcomes in communities; also, what sustains the "school to prison pipeline."  Offers strategies to create and sustain diversity and inclusion  in education.  $50, includes materials, light breakfast.  For information and to register, contact communications@ethnicdiversity.org  or (616) 846-9074.  At Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance office, 665 136th Ave, Holland.
 
Thurs, Oct 30, 5 pm (pizza dinner), 6 pm (program): NO MORE event "addressing domestic and dating violence and how we can help as empowered bystanders."  Survivor speaker and performance by the GVSU ReACT! Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos Community Festival:  Special programs and displays--ofrendas, crafts, storytime, lotería, art projects, and more—at Herrick District Library, Holland Museum, and Holland Area Arts Council from October into early November. The Big Read Holland:  In November, Hope College, Herrick District Library, Holland Museum, plus local churches, businesses, and organizations will host a variety of community programs around the classic, Pulitzer Prize-winning book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.  See The Big Read page on Facebook or go to the website https://www.facebook.com/bigreadholland  ACEH will host a book discussion on Friday, Nov 14 (more information in the ACEH November Newsletter).

Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON):  Legal assistant (flexible 20 hrs/wk; $11-15/hr based on experience).
