Tues, Jan 27, 1 pm to 2:30 pm:  Greater Grand Rapids Racial Equity Network.  Organizations, agencies, businesses, institutions, and individuals committed to racial equity; network "provides space for participants to increase their capacity to eliminate racialized outcomes, build relationships, recruit the help of others.  Meets 4th Tuesday of each month. Tues, Jan 27, 4 pm: Study Abroad: Round Table of Returning Students from France.  Hosted by Global French Studies program at Hope College.  At Martha Miller Center Auditorium, 10th St at Columbia Ave, Holland.
 
Tues, Jan 27, 7 pm: Free public information meeting (in English and in Spanish) on the new Executive Actions on Immigration.  Attorney Sarah Yore-VanOosterhout from Justice for Our Neighbors (JFON) will cover who qualifies, documentation needed, and potential obstacles.  In the spring Intersection Ministries and JFON plan to provide a form-preparation workshop to assist a limited number of people to prepare applications.  People at the Jan 27 meeting will be notified when the workshop is scheduled.  At Intersection Ministries, 945 136th Ave, Holland.
 
Thurs, Jan 29, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm: Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce OutPro Network: "Until It's Equal—Insights on Standing Up for LGBT Equality."  Discussion of leadership actions needed to update Michigan's civil rights law to include equal protections for the state's LGBT people, presented by Frank Foster of Petoskey, formerly a GOP state representative.  Free, but pre-registration required. Thurs, Jan 29, 6 pm:  2015 Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration: Asian New Year Festival.  Traditional celebration highlighting richness and diversity of Asia and featuring Asian cuisine and performances from Asian ethnic groups, including a dragon dance, Chinese martial arts, national dance, and cultural fashion show.  Free. Now to June 15: "A Hundred Flowers: Phillip A. Harrington Photography from the People's Republic, 1956-1957."   One of the first American journalists to enter Red China, Phillip A. Harrington (1920-2009), traveled through Moscow into China photographing everyday life in Beijing, Shanghai, and surrounding areas, capturing a never-before published; Harrington won awards for his coverage of China. www.hollandmuseum.org  At Holland Museum 31 West 10th St, Holland.
 
Jan 30 – Aug 16: Splendors of Shiga: Treasures from Japan.  Exhibit is partnership with Shiga, Grand Rapids' sister state in Japan; includes pottery, scrolls, screens, kimono and functional objects, works on paper and in wood; exhibit will change every two months.  Includes video and other materials on Shiga. Scholarships

Looking Ahead
