 Mon, Oct 24, 4 pm-7 pm:  Opening Doors to the Voices of Survivors reception featuring artwork created by survivors of domestic and sexual violence.  Collaboration of Center for Women in Transition and Hope College STEM program and other departments.  At Martha Miller Center, 257 Columbia Ave (at 10th St), Holland.

 Tues, Oct 25, 11:30 am-12:30 pm: Learning Lab event.  Crafting Culturally Inclusive Environments…Intentionally.  Presented by Faye Richardson-Green, executive director of Partners for a Racism-Free Community.  $45, includes lunch.  www.prfc-gr.org  At Habitat for Humanity of Kent Co., 425 Pleasant St, SW, Grand Rapids.

 Fri, Oct 28, 5:30 pm-7 pm: #RacisminGR Community Conversations.  One in a series of dialogues for community members to discuss/reflect—in safe spaces--on experiences with racism, bias, and inequity in Grand Rapids.  Free.  At Habitat for Humanity of Kent Co., 425 Pleasant St, SW, Grand Rapids.

 Sat, Oct 29, 10 am to 4 pm:  Día de los Muertos Community Day.  Family-friendly crafts (10 am to noon); ofrenda tours (11 am and 1:30 pm); Spanish-language tour of the bilingual "After the Rupture" exhibition (2:30 pm).  Presented by Hope College Latino Student Organization and KAM.  At Kruizenga Art Museum, Columbia Ave at 11th St, Holland.

 Sun, Oct 30, 1 pm to 4 pm:  Family Day for Dïa de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).  Learn more about the Mexican holiday that honors family and friends who have passed on.  Explore  altars created by families to celebrate life and memory of their loved ones.  Bilingual story times, live music from Cabildo, food from local restaurants, Pan de Muerto provided by Panaderia Margo.  Free, open to the public. The exhibit of altars will be open during library hours Oct 17 – Nov 1.  At Grand Rapids Main Library, 111 Library St NE, Grand Rapids.

 Mon, Oct 31, 4 pm (Hope College campus) and 7:30 pm (Fellowship Church):  Kairos West Michigan. An Israeli and a Palestinian couple who have lost children to "enemy" fire in Israel and Palestine will share their stories in a program "Through Shared Lament to Reconciliation." 4 pm: Winants Auditorium, Graves Hall, College Ave at 11th St, Holland; 7:30 pm: Fellowship Church, NW corner of Lakewood Blvd and 168th Ave, Holland

 Fri, Nov 4, 6:30 pm-11 pm:  Latin Americans United for Progress (LAUP) Inaugural Gala. Black-tie dinner, celebration, dancing, drinks, awards.  Community Opportunity

The Big ReadThere will be many community events in Holland focused on Haiti and the book "Brother, I'm Dying" by Edwidge Danticat, beginning November 1 & ending December 6.  The Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) is hosting a discussion of the book on Friday, November 11, at 7 pm at the Holland Museum, 31 West 10th St, Holland.  You can find a complete schedule and descriptions of the events at https://blogs.hope.edu/thebigread/events/   Information will also be in the next "In the Community" and the November Newsletter of ACEH.
