 TUESDAY, OCTOBER 11, IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER TO BE ABLE TO VOTE IN THE NOVEMBER 8, ELECTION.  YOU CAN REGISTER AT YOUR CITY, TOWNSHIP, OR COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE.

Wed, Oct 12, noon to 1 pm:  Lunch at the Museum:  Hope College Study Abroad.  Three Hope students will discuss their recent experiences living and learning in Spain and Peru.  Program is in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month and the museum's current exhibit "Taller de Gráfica Popular: Twelve Works from the People's Print Workshop of Mexico City." Free; bring own sack lunch; museum will provide beverages.  At Holland Museum, 31 West 10th St, Holland.

 Thurs, Oct 13, 8:30 am:  10th annual Lakeshore Friends of Fair Housing: Opening Doors to Housing Choice Breakfast.  Speaker: Shanna Smith of the National Fair Housing Alliance.  Free but advance registration is required at www.fhcwm.org or call (866) 389-FAIR.  At Double Tree Hotel, 650 East 24th St, Holland.

Fri, Oct 14:  Fundraiser for Upward Bound.  UB seniors and their parents are making dinners that include carne de res guisada en salsa verde y papas (beef with potatoes in green sauce), frijoles (beans), arroz (rice), and 4 corn tortillas; cost is $7 per plate.  Meals will be delivered to the Upward Bound office (basement of Graves Hall) at noon and at 4 pm.  (If you're attending the ACEH/Encounter with Cultures program at 6:45 p.m. at Graves, why not pick up your dinner at Upward Bound at 4 and eat in a local park?)  Dinners are being prepared at the Boys & Girls Club on the northside, so you also could pick up your food there.  Contact the Upward Bound office at (616) 395-7745 to place your order; all orders and payment must be received by 4 pm, Monday, Oct. 10.

 

Fri, Oct 14, 6:45 pm:  Documentary "Our Fires Still Burn: The Native American Experience."  Features four contemporary Native Americans in the Midwest: a businessmen, journalist, artist, and youth advocate, who share how they use ancestral teachings to foster diversity and creativity and educate and initiate social change."   Co-sponsored by Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) and Encounter with Cultures program at Hope College.  Discussion, refreshments.  Everyone is welcome.  At Winants Auditorium, Graves Hall, Hope College, College Ave at 11th St, Holland.  Accessible entrance & elevator are at rear of building.
