Sat, Jan 11, 1 pm: "What's Different?" Program for parents/guardians and their children ages 4 to 8 with early childhood educator Jen Griffith, on how to talk with children "so they understand differences are just that; learn how our response to those human differences can make 'all the difference in the world.'"  Free, donations appreciated.  At Holland Museum, 31 West 10th St, Holland.

Tues, Jan 14, 6:30 pm:  Storytime in Spark Lab.  Children's program to hear a story about diverse inventors and their creations; afterwards, kids can take what they learn and invent something in Spark Lab.  Free; donations appreciated.  At Holland Museum, 31 West 10th St, Holland.

Wed, Jan 15, 5:30 pm to 8 pm:  New Mentor Training.  Escape Ministries invites people in the community to mentor a young person, one-on-one, once a week, and says "our mentoring relationships are beautiful, difficult, diverse, and mutually transformative. Wed, Jan 15, 6:30 pm:  2019 Social Justice Awards. Presentation by Holland Human Relations Commission.  At Holland City Council Chambers, 270 South River, Holland.

Thurs, Jan 16, 7 pm: "Us versus THEM: Understanding Images of Separation," by Dr. David Pilgrim, founder and director of the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University.  Introduces audience to the creation, mission, and work of the museum, the nation's largest collection of publicly accessible racist artifacts.  At Holland Museum, 31 West 10th St, Holland.

Fri, Jan 17, 7-8 pm, dance instruction; 8-10 pm dancing:  Latin Dance II.  Hosted by Westcore Neighbors, a 501(c)3 organization in Holland, connecting people to help create a thriving neighborhood.  $10; pay cash at the door.  At Merchant Hall, 438 Washington Ave (Washington Square), Holland.

Sat, Jan 18, 10 am to 1 pm: "Cultural Immersion: Across the Bridge."  Panelists Dale Nesbary, Jarrett Ruffin, Carolyn Taylor, Charlene Smith discuss cultural and racial divide between Muskegon and Grand Haven and their motivation to try to help narrow that gap through planned experiences in 2020. Exhibits

"(re)collection" through Thurs, Feb 6.  Chicago-based artist and professor Nate Young uses family oral history and artifacts to interpret the life of his great-grandfather, who was part of the African American experience during the Great Migration of the 20th century.  At DePree Art Center and Gallery, Hope College, 275 Columbia Ave, Holland.
