Wed, July 22, plus July 28 and Aug 8), 8 pm:  Hope Summer Repertory Theatre play "To Kill a Mockingbird," that explores racial injustice that threatens to divide a community.  "Through courage and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks truth and justice, while his feisty daughter, Scout, learns what it means to be an instrument of hope."  Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Harper Lee, the book was Holland's Big Read in 2014.  Ticket prices vary. Tues, Aug 4, 5 pm to 7 pm:  24th annual National Night Out "Going Away Party for Crime and Drugs."  Community-wide block party highlighting police/community relations and neighborhood spirit.  Free, including free hot dogs and ice cream.  Activities, information tables, child ID, horse rides, pie-eating contest, music by "Sweet Justice," comprised of local law enforcement personnel.

Mon, Aug 10, 6 pm to 8 pm: Destination Education "Off to College Party" for students going to college or returning to college.  Students' entire families invited also, for games and food.  First 120 college students will receive a College Survival Kit and a chances to win larger prizes.  RSVPs requested but not required, at http://ow.ly/LE1hF  Those who register will be entered in a special drawing for an iPad mini.  At Kollen Park picnic pavilion, 240 Kollen Park Blvd, Holland.

Disability Network/Lakeshore:  DN/L is accepting nominations for its 5th annual 2015 Ability Award.  Nominees may be any resident of Allegan or Ottawa County "who lives with a disability, has a family member with a disability, or is a friend or ally to the disability community." The award honors those who promote a spirit of inclusion and a community without barriers, through leadership, advocacy, and empowerment of people with disabilities. TONIGHT, Mon, July 13, 7 pm: General meeting of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH)   Showing 40-minute documentary "Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot," produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center Teaching Tolerance project: "The story of courageous students and teachers, with other activists, who fought a nonviolent battle to win voting rights for African Americans in the South."  Speakers will present information on voting rights and voter registration.
