ACEH was founded in Holland in 1999 and is committed to justice, equal opportunity, cross-cultural understanding, and appreciation for diversity. Members and friends work together through programs, outreach, advocacy, and social events to make West Michigan a place where all people are welcomed and respected. TONIGHT, Mon, July 13, 7 pm: General meeting of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) Showing 40-minute documentary "Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot," produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center Teaching Tolerance project: "The story of courageous students and teachers, with other activists, who fought a nonviolent battle to win voting rights for African Americans in the South." Speakers will present information on voting rights and voter registration. Program is co-sponsored by TRIO/Upward Bound at Hope College. Everyone is welcome. "Through courage and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks truth and justice, while his feisty daughter, Scout, learns what it means to be an instrument of hope." Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Harper Lee, the book was Holland's Big Read in 2014. Ticket prices vary. Community Opportunities
Disability Network/Lakeshore: DN/L is accepting nominations for its 5th annual 2015 Ability Award. Nominees may be any resident of Allegan or Ottawa County "who lives with a disability, has a family member with a disability, or is a friend or ally to the disability community." The award honors those who promote a spirit of inclusion and a community without barriers, through leadership, advocacy, and empowerment of people with disabilities.
