Members and friends work together through programs, outreach, advocacy, and social events to make West Michigan a place where all people are welcomed and respected. "Through courage and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks truth and justice, while his feisty daughter, Scout, learns what it means to be an instrument of hope." Mon, July 13, 7 pm: General meeting of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH) Showing 40-minute documentary "Selma: The Bridge to the Ballot," produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center Teaching Tolerance project: "The story of courageous students and teachers, with other activists, who fought a nonviolent battle to win voting rights for African Americans in the South." Speakers will present information on voting rights and voter registration. Program is co-sponsored by TRIO/Upward Bound at Hope College. Everyone is welcome. Sunday, Aug 9, 1 pm to 4 pm: 17th annual Potluck in the Park of the Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony (ACEH). Everyone is welcome. Please bring a dish to share from your cultural background; ACEH provides beverages and table service. Music, children's activities, fantastic food, and lots of fun. Disability Network/Lakeshore: DN/L is accepting nominations for its 5th annual 2015 Ability Award. Nominees may be any resident of Allegan or Ottawa County "who lives with a disability, has a family member with a disability, or is a friend or ally to the disability community." The award honors those who promote a spirit of inclusion and a community without barriers, through leadership, advocacy, and empowerment of people with disabilities.
